If I catch your drift, you're right. When someone borrows money, they never give back the same bills with the same serial numbers. But the definition does say "or equivalent."

Not at all. Everyone asks me for money. Not unusual. Yeah, but everyone that asks returns the money the borrowed the next day.

Ouch!

Sounds like you've been burned once too many.

However, if you ever should feel the desire or pressure to "lend" money, you should assume that it is a gift, whether spoken or implied, therefore you won't be disappointed if it never gets returned.

:)

I only loan money to family or friends who I know will return it.

IF I loan money to someone and they do not return it......then I never loan them money again. I only had that happen once
and was only $5.00. I never asked for it, but about 6 months later.........he paid me back; however, I knew not to loan him a substantial amount because if it took 6 months to return 5 bucks........how could he ever repay anything more than that??

they could return it to you later with other bills, but the same equivalency, which is said in the definition you provided anyway.

are you saying this because the money you loan someone is not the exact same bills that you gave them?

no that is not strange, and someone burrows something from me, they return it. (obviously not the same bills they burrowed, but the same amount!)
