On the news tonight , a unfortunate little 7 years old girl lost her life 'driving' one of these 100cc four wheeled off roaders , on a public road , she had got for her Xmas. For one , who in their right mind would let a little 7 year old in charge of a fast machine. For two , let her drive it along a public highway , albeit rural. For three , the dad should have his head examined for allowing this and being there at the time. A very sad case of 'pester-power' in the extreme.

Glad I'm not the only one who was staggered to hear that news report.

Absolutely tragic. But it is completely illegal to drive a quad bike on a public road, it is an unlicensed vehicle, and the child was far too young to be able to control it, even if she had been on private property. What in God's name were the parents thinking of? More money than sense!

As for the other woman driver, she would automatically have been breathalysed after an accident like that. She was released without charge BUT bailed until Monday so it appears that she might be charged with something though not necessarily drink/driving. It's possible the breathalyser has proved negative for alcohol but police are waiting for the results of blood tests for drugs.

Still a tragic accident which could so easily have been avoided had the parents been more responsible.

My daughter is seven years old and there is no way I would let her near a quad bike, especially not on a public road on a dark evening. She's barely got the hang of roller skates never mind such a powerful vehicle. It is illegal for children to drive these things on the road and for good reason. I'm very, very sorry for this little girl, and I do feel some sympathy for her parents but it was completely irresponsible and foolish for them to have allowed this to happen.

The driver who hit the girl tested negative for drink and drugs by the way. It appears the little girl lost control and swerved into her path.

Tell me about it, we have loads of them round here, on their little 4 x 4s driving around the public park areas and annoying people like me who are trying to walk their dogs or go for a quiet stroll with their baby! Its crazy!

Those 4 x 4 things are like proper little cars and no child of 7 could steer or control one properly.

My son is only 13 months old and so too young for them but I'd be really nervous about him having one when he's older. I think they are quite dangerous.

Yes this is very sad that the stupid parents allowed this to happen. It was also in the dark. They should be arrested not the driver of the other vehicle, but trust the Police to pick on the wrong person.

I heard it on the news & even now I am gobsmacked. With two kids of my own......I would not let them do it..On a public road. Can you imagine how the other person feels. The one that hit the little girl. I bet shes going to have a nice Christmas. I would be Gutted.

I see from one of the other am answers that the driver was drunk! I have not heard that myself. But never the less on a public rd at the age of severn. If I was drunk driving that car I would be slitting my wrists...Could not live with myself.

A friend of mine bought a quad bike for her boys, she told me it actually warns of 'this machine can cause death' - I completely agree with you, totally ridiculous to give a 7 year old a quad bike - and to allow her on a public highway AT NIGHT? Unbelievable really.

Look at the house,Look at the area, Parents think they are above law. Total arrogant BAST----

No I do not condone drink driving. A child of 7 years of age should not be on a public road, This accident happened in the evening whilst dark. This proves even more, how arrogant the parents are

Hear! Hear! I simply could not believe it. This seems to be our world today 'what the child wants the child gets'. Or could it have been a case of daddy wanted a 'boys toy' in the name of his child wanting it? No doubt the man will feel guilt for the rest of his life but a little girl has no life at all.

Yes trying to figure out why the lady driving the 4x4 was arrested and yet not the parents of the child,God Bless the little girl.
After 35 yrs as a paramedic the stupidity of people has ceased to surprise me anymore but I still feel sadness at it.

I agree this bike was too powerful for 7 year old, and she should never have been on the road, let alone been on it in the first place. The parents should be prosecuted.
