My Toshiba Satellite A215-S7413 only has 1024MB of DDR2 SDRAM ( no idea what that means), and my cousins who all work with computer said that it is not enough to run Windows Vista Home Premium and they said that I should get more, but how do i get more? ANY help would be great! Thanks

Look at the bottom of the machine. There should be a small "door" you open with a screw driver that shows you a very short RAM slot (much shorter than the desktop version). That's called a "compact DIMM slot" (regular deskto use DIMM slot). Just find out what type of RAM your computer use (and you already did that) and go buy matching ones that fits your slots!

Go to any computer mall and ask for laptop DDRam and buy a new 1024 MB one and take Ur laptop with U and ask any technical in the mall to attach the new ram beside the old one and now U have doubled the Ram memory in Ur laptop
But my information says that windows vista needs 512 MB ram so U can run it but it will be a little bit slow but it will work

and by the way Vista really do not deserve all of that if I were U I'd learn how to use Linux instead ( U can find many good distributions of it for free on their websites )

Regards,

I'm pretty sure the MINIMUM amount of RAM to you need to run Vista is 2GB. We got 2 GB to run Vist and it still ran slow, get more if you can.

You can buy ram at most computer parts stores, or online. If you go to the store, just tell the sales person that you need at least 2 gb of RAM - tell them EXACTLY what you have listed above (DDR2 SDRAM). If your cousins are computer people, take one of them with you to purchase it and have them change out the RAM chips for you. It's actually not very hard to change out the chips, but should be done by someone who knows their way around the internal parts of a computer.

Try www.frys.com. This is a CA parts store that we get our parts from (typically) but they will ship anywhere. They also have very reasonable prices.

you can buy more RAM if your laptops allows more RAM to be installed.

This website will scan your computer and tell you if you can put more RAM in it/which RAM to install.

http://www.crucial.com/store/drammemory.aspx

1gb of RAM will run windows vista home premium fine but for best performance 2gb is recommened.

If your laptop can handle more RAM and you do buy RAM it has to be compatible, but the Crucial website should suggest the correct RAM or someone in a computer store can install the correct RAM.

if you can get a hold of windows xp you'll probably be happier... your cousins my have a 'copy' of it you could 'borrow' to try out to see if you like it... that's what I did... instead of upgrading I put windows xp on my laptop and it runs like a dream... Vista still has too many bugs in it to be worth the trouble of the upgrade...

you can get the ram on ebay though... my boyfriend did that... because he couldn't get ram shipped from the manufacturer of his laptop. his is a gateway and we live in canada... and they don't ship here
