i am 17 years old and i want to become a firefighter more than anything in this world...i have my work permit and i have my greencard, i am a legal resident of the U.S is that enough to be a firefighteR? some people say u need citizenship

i was thinking that too, that it is most likely they will give it to other well deserved u.s citizens, i plan on exceeding at everything maybe even work as a paramedic beforehand to get some experience maybe that will help a bit.

Every department has their own rules, however if you are authorized to work in the US you should be okay. if you are interested in a specific department, check out their website.

I'm sure you're going to need to contact your local FD's to get this question. Every jurisdiction has it's own rules--though I know hundreds of people apply for just a handful of spots, and in my opinion it's unlikely that they'd give a coveted position to a non-citizen over several deserving citizens.
