I think it's good to live together first. The longer your together the harder is be apart. it's easy to depend on someone to much. I would think long and hard about weather or not you want to marry this person. It's not easy to go through a divorce. Your practically married already. Common law in some states.

Within the first 3 you should have been discussing whether you had marriage in your future and if you did, you should have chosen a date and a plan. You shouldn't have been "waiting" to get married. You should have been pro-active. After 8 1/2 yrs. I would say you have the wrong guy.

I wouldn't have lived together until we got married. My husband and I dated for a little over a year, got married, and THEN moved in together. We've been married over 5 years now.

Let me guess, you are in a "committed relationship" with a commitment phobe.

Edit: Most states no longer recognize common law, and of those that do, the shacking had to start before the 1990's.

If he can't make a committment by now I doubt that he ever will. I'd have a serious talk, and if he still doesn't want to tie the knot, I'd bite the bullet and move on, unless you still want to be in the same place a year from now. Good luck, and God Bless, and yes you are strong enough to do it. Find someone who appreciates you and wants committment!

They won't marry you b/c you already live together!! It should go like this: dating, exclusive, proposal, marriage and THEN living together as man and wife. Usually if you just move in with them then there's really no reason to get married, you already live like you're married..........

You should have gotten married already.
When a man loves a woman, he will do anything to be with her.

Sounds to me like a marriage is never going to happen here.
