I need clay. That hardens and won't crack when it's dry.

Almost everything except specially mixed modeling clay (Plasticine) and Sculpy will air harden. The secret to not cracking is: not too thick and dry slowly. Most clays, including natural clay, have to be baked or fired to reach full strength and they have to be completely dry before firing or the steam inside will explode them.
