I have been playing Sims for ages and I now have Sims 2 with all of the expansion packs (up to Bon Voyage) and no "Stuff" packs on my computer. My computer is a laptop, Dell Inspiron E1505.
For whatever reason, I will be playing and the screen will freeze up and nothing will unfreeze it and I end up having to shut my computer down. Other times, I get an error message that says "D3DERR_NOTAVAILBLE." It gets to the point when I am saving my game every 5-10 minutes just to keep from losing all my progress but that's a pain in the butt.
Laptop specs:
Windows XP Pro w/SP2
Dell Inspiron I6400
Intel Core Duo
T2400 @ 1.83 GHz
1.00 GB of RAM
11.4 free GB on C: drive
Please... any suggestions would be appreciated!

Its most probably a graphics card problem, it may not have enough video memory or the correct requirments, that website will tell you what it is.
Alot of laptops will struggle to play The Sims 2 due to the amount of resources it uses and its high specs. EA have brought out laptop friends sims in the form of
Sims 2:life stories, pet stories etc.etc.

the regular sims 2 is made for a pc. not a laptop.
i think its doing that b/c it takes up a TON of space.
you might wanna get the laptop friendly version of the sims 2 for cour laptop. it might help. im no expert w/ computers, but my friend had the same problem. so she got the laptop one and it was a little better i think (i haven't talked to her in a while)

I had this comparable problem. i began out to have important lag when I put in my first enlargement. What I did is spent $50 on a reminiscence chip and put in it myself. (undemanding). lookup your pc on the producer's website to be sure how plenty reminiscence your comp is able to. verify the cardboard kind and the two order it from the maker or from Amazon. it quite is properly worth it and it makes your pc plenty swifter with each thing.
