Variations on this question have been asked 100's of times oh Yahoo already. Nobody has been able to find the actual place, carving, writing, or anything like that where the Mayans actually said or write this. What they actually wrote down was something like "This calendar ends in the year [2012]. Have the high priest M'kala'umba get another one from the stone carver before then, or the King will send us all to another dimension."

I think it was made up by some 12-year old geek on some internet blog, about 1 or 2 years ago.

As you may know, no one can be 100% sure of their answer, but we can provide information to support our answers. I have read in many different books that the world will end on Dec 12 2012. The Mayans were not the only group to perceive this date either. There were many oracles such as Marvin, that have said the same thing. The higher dimension could be inferred as the past life. Although oracles dating back to 150a.d. have said this date is when the world will end, some were wrong when they thought the same thing in 1983 and were wrong; so no one actually knows, but we will soon find out!

So, what is a "higher dimension"? How could anyone answer this without that definition. Otherwise, it is meaningless to us.

Note that the Mayans knew nothing of the world beyond their little enclave in Central America.

Stop reading tabloid literature and read some real science.

Cultural shifts and 'waves of change' have been felt all through history. We feel one now globally. A shift in awareness, a shift in global population, a shift in the universe and how our solar system moves and how we move about in our orbits. Tectonic plate shifting continues. We have been reaching a higher dimension in our communication through the incredible but not yet edible internet.

Shift happens Flagrantly or subtly
The rythmn of the universe keeps beat with the tides and our hearts. The Farmer's Almanac is another type of predictor of shifts in weather.

Maybe we will notice maybe we will not. How important is it in God's grand scheme of things? As important as you choose to make it.

It is interesting that differing cultures can observe patterns and make maps, calendars, etc of them.

I'll be eating sleeping and walking in peace and love on this planet until God moves me elsewhere.

Until then,
Happy trails to you until we meet again.
Happy trails to you keep smiling until then......

This isn't what they said. They said that there would be a major event at the end of this baktun, but there are much higher orders of magnitude used in the Long Count and references to dates thousands of years after that one. The Maya themselves would see it as a cause for celebration though.

What is Mayan for "higher dimension"?

Yes, a major cycle of their calendar will end. How this could possibly affect anything is beyond me.

No, the mayans do not possess the knowledge and understanding of the heavens and life as we know it today. 2012 is a myth, not real, fabrication.
If anyone you know thinks that 2012 is the last year for the human race, please tell them that it's not and not to spread the idea behind it.

No, they never said that. They were right that their long count ends.

Our calendar, more or less ended with the year 2000 (Y2K), but we dusted off our errors, made a few corrections, and the next day, everything kept on going.

Yes. They were also right that the key to salvation is ripping the still-beating bloody hearts out of young children. Are these really the people you want to be getting your "wisdom" from?
