My family is planning to rent a home at Martha's Vineyard in August 08'. We noticed there are a lot of towns to choose from. We have children that range from ages 2-15 years old. What is the best town to rent in?

Oak Bluffs is much better than Edgartown if you have kids. The oldest carousel in America is there and there also is an arcade. There's a couple of nice beaches, plenty of stores, and lots of restaurants. But the best reason is that Oak Bluffs is cheaper than anywhere else on the Island!
Don't waste time taking bicycles (unless you have the room) because you can rent Bicycles, Mopeds, Autos, Jeeps, etc. in Oak Bluffs. There are plenty of bike trails on the Island, one of which starts in Oak Bluffs.
There are also buses that run all over the Island (day and night) and you can buy passes that are cheap.

Edgartown is a good place for kids. I stayed in Martha's Vineyard in 1997, when I was backpacking from Australia. Edgartown has good facilities.

Otherwise there is a hostel in West Tilbury (I think it was called that) that is very family friendly. There were loads of families when I stayed there, which made a welcome change from the drunken yobbos that frequent hostels.

Take some bikes with you, when you are there. Cycling is a great activity.

Have fun
