Hello, I have just started playing guitar and I think I am semi picking it up easily. I litterly started yesterday but I can do most excersices (I know big accomplishment) and the easy beging part of "smoke on the water" I do not expect becoming really good for a while but I would like a new song for me to play. Please do not say any songs like Row Row Row your boat because I have already tried thouse thank you.

Beginning guitar you should learn songs that give you new insights...

For example, if you learn "dust in the wind", you will practice some finger-picking. Same with Beatles' "Blackbird".

Stairway To Heaven and Hotel California will show you chord form variations on the other side of the fretboard from the typical "power chords".

"Brown Eyed Girl" gives you some experience with double stops.

"You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet" is a good not too difficult song. Maybe the "No Matter" song -- I don't remember the proper name, but it has the lyric "no matter where you are, there will always be a place, can't you see it in my face..."

Thin Lizzy "The Boys are Back in Town" has some nice chord changes. "Cowboy Song" has some slightly tricky fretwork... good practice.

Eventually, all of these pieces gel together and you notice you have developed your own style...

Well, easy all depends on your level of skill. Are you playing the chorded begining to Smoke on the Water, or just on one string at a time. I would start with songs that have chords in them. I would suggest some of the classic rock songs.

Sweet Home Alabama for instance.

You can go to Guitar Tab Universe and search for songs on there. Just make sure you get the chorded version. Tablature is very difficult for beginners.

Smells like teen spirit by Nirvana is a good power chord easy song. If your still on the smoke on the water stuff I wouldn't know anything else. First song I learnt was the exorcist theme, but it was ages ago so that's all I can remember

1) Smoke On The Water - Deep Purplease 2) Seven Nation Army - White Strips 3) Highway To Hell - AC/DC 4) Wonderwall - Oasis 5) Iron Man - Black Sabbath 6) Paranoid - Black Sabbath 7) Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana 8) James Bond Theme 9) Sunshine Of Your Love - Cream 10) Slither - Velvet Revolver. Some of these are harder than the others. if I were you I'd start with the James Bond Theme. Also practise this lick to build speed: e------------------------- b--7--------------------- g-----7---9-----7----9 d-------8-----7-----8--

You could start working on chords. You're gunna have to learn them eventually so you might as well start now. A good and easy
song to start with is Knokin' on Heavens Door by Bob Dylan. 3 chords and they're all simple but its a great song.

Check out Johnny Cash songs, I know, I know it is country but if you check your history books he once was thought of as Rock. "Walk the line" , etc... are fairly easy to pick up and many people will recognize them.
