My 5 Month old baby girl is on amoxacillan for a sore throat. She used to poop every other day but since shes been on it shes been going about 3 times a day. And its not normal looking like a mustardy colour with cottage cheese looking stuff in it. Is that normal? My doctors office is closed for another week and a half.

Its normal as long as there is no fever. Diarrhea should e expected or day or two just make sure to give her liquids. If you get really worried go to the ER.

When you picked up the prescription from your pharmacy you should have received a printout that tells you all the side effects that you might see when your child takes amoxicillin. Diarrhea is one of them. It is not at all unusual to either become constipated or to have frequent bowel movements. Treat her as you would is she just had a stomach upset. Make sure she has lots of liquids to prevent dehydration. If she starts to show a fever or act unusually, other than the bowel movements, she should be seen by a doctor. If your doctor is away until after the holiday, he should have someone that is covering his patients. Contact that doctor to voice your concerns. My son LIVED on liquid amox for about three years with constant sore throats and ear infections. He did just fine... sometimes going frequently and sometimes not going at all! Kids!

My son is 5 months old and on amoxicillan for a double ear infection. He is basically going through the same thing and he has had major diaper blowouts. The smell is horrible and very sulfuric. Unfortunately there is nothing you can do. The antibiotic is also working on the natural bacteria in the stomach lining which is causing the diarrhea. The doctor's office will tell you to treat the diaper rash if there is one.

This sounds ok. If she is sick anyway, the poop might be due to a stomach bug and not the medicine. Even though your doc office is closed, try call another one in your town. Most offices are open and most pediatric offices will take your call and have a nurse call you back even if you aren't a patient there. But you should definitely call someone just to be safe.

My son has been on antibiotics 3 times already for ear infections (6M) and it has caused him to have explosive diareha =O during and for a week or so afterwards. I hate it!!! It seems like right when things get back to "normal" he gets another one. So yes it is normal. Just make sure she is getting enough fluids and is peeing enough.

That is a side affect of the anitbiotic. Just make sure she gets plenty of fluid. Try peiolite to make sure she doesnt get dehydrated.
