I'm going to be in London for awhile and I would like to take lots and lots of pictures, but I don't know which museums, if any, allow you to take pictures. Do all museums in London ban flash photography or do only some museums ban cameras? I just don't want to be seen as being the dumb tourist who gets in trouble for taking pictures of exhibits in museums lol.

lmao, in retrospect, I now realize I should have worded my original question better. Perhaps I should have said something like "Can I bring my camera into museums in London". Whoops, lol.

I know you cannot take pictures in the National Portrait Gallery - I bought a book and some post cards to bring home. However, you can take pictures in the British Museum, even with a flash, tho without it or at an angle works better for items in glass cases. You can even take pictures in Harrod's now. The first time I was there, it was strictly forbidden. The best thing to do is check the brochures, or just ask... the employees very friendly and are more than happy to help
Have a great trip and get lots of pictures!! I was in the UK for 17 days in May 2006, and took over 8000 pix!!

Good question... and I don't really know the answer, but I do have a partial solution. If flash photography is banned, which it probably is, take a tripod and use a longer exposure time. You'll need a tripod, since its pretty much agreed that any speed slower than 1/150th of a second is too slow for the average human to hold steady. Good luck.

I think that this is a universal NO NO. I have yet to visit a museum that allowed photography. Okay I and took pictures of some mummies in Chicago's Field Museum.

Bless, you're so American! We don't use quid to replace the word 'money', a quid is the amount you pay e.g: 'that's 10 quid please' (what you said implies that a ticket costs only one pound, which isn't the case). The V&A has some hugely interesting Asian sections and it's more arty than most museums. If you've got the time you may as well go because it's free. Have a great time!
