If a road (Highway,Interstate,or other numbered road) goes East to WEST it is designated with EVEN numbers.And a North-South Artery is listed with an ODD number.
Interstate 40 is East-West,Interstate 65 is North/South.

As a general rule, all state and federal routes that are even numbered run east to west. All odd numbered roads run north to south.
US routes 20, 30, 38 and interstates I-60, I-80, I-90, I-94 run east to west. US routes 41, 43, 45 and interstate routes I-95, I-55, I-65 run north to south.

Rte 66 only starts at Chicago.
I-64 goes from Atlantic to Pacific Oceans
U.S. 60 does the same.
I-10 goes from Jacksonville, FL to Las Angeles, CA
