Some folks cling to the delusion that they can control what their kids see and hear, and they get frustrated that the entire world is not playing along.

The world is an ugly place, but reporting questions on Yahoo Answers is not the way to clean it up.

There are guidelines for the use of this website. The rules apply to everyone who wishes to use the site, either by asking or answering a question. Without guidelines in life, there is chaos. Laws are broken. People get hurt. If you don't learn to "follow the rules" in the small stuff, how can you ever be trusted with the really big issues such as don't steal, don't kill, don't molest children, don't commit arson. In your way of thinking, if I saw someone stealing a car I should ignore it. If I see someone raping a child, I should just ignore it. If I see someone setting your house on fire, should I just ignore it?? I don't report a question because it offends just me. I report someone for abusing the site by ignoring the guidelines.

This site is open to use by people that don't know about stuff like "phishing sites" and "key loggers" etc.. That's the kinda' thing I report for.

Also illegal stuff like pipebomb instructions, etc.

I also reported one that was by an 11 year old asking for websites to visit.. 13 years old is the youngest age that's "allowed" to use Yahoo Answers. That's just BEGGING for some sucker to put in a bad link. It's not "offensive" it's just possibly putting people's computers at risk. It was kind of a "double-whammy" so I reported it.

I don't report stuff for being "offensive".. I just give it a thumbs down if I don't like it. Hell, I know how to act in public, and have my own personal standards, but I'm not going to police folks who think they should use cursewords or sex to gather attention. If their parents haven't fixed the problem, my reporting them won't fix it either.

As far as my kids go.. they see the bad words, and they KNOW they're bad words, and know they can only use that language away from adults or they'll be punished for it. I encourage them not to use it at all, but c'mon, we all know every kid over the age of like 10 has no problem cussing in-front of their friends. I just tell them it's a lazy way to talk. There are too many other words out there.

Offensive sex stuff is fine too.. I like the chance to be told by them that they saw something they didn't understand. Better yet, I like to be there when they DO run into that kinda thing because I can explain it, and put it in context better than their friends will at school.

Parents that "shut--down" that kinda thing, also "shut-down" their kids ability to experience it in a protected environment. Would they rather have the kid off experimenting on their own because they know nothing about it? They're gonna' run into it anyways.. wouldn't it be better to guide them past it?

Oh, I also sometimes report when the question doesn't follow the "terms and conditions of use" like being racist, or being hateful towards folks.. And/Or not asking a question. Not because it offends me, but because they're breaking rules that we've all agreed to follow. Though I have to admit.. I ignore quite a bit.. I just tend to go after the "double whammies".

I figure that if any report DOES cause the question to get pulled, it's because someone agreed with me. (it takes two reports to get action taken).

Anyways.. that's my take on it. This place would suck if squealling 6 year olds flooded the place with non-questions about how cool naruto is, or folks flooded all the sections with porn, just because there was nothing to stop them from doing it. Or racist remarks everywhere that any black person chose to post. Or sexist remarks wherever women posted. Anti-jew postings on any jew related thread.

Threats and harrassment, etc.. this place could easily get out of hand without SOME kind of system set up to police it.

It's a simple reporting system to enable folks to control the environment enough to maintain enjoyment of it for the most users.

If you don't like reporting, don't report. If you don't like being reported, don't post things that are OBVIOUSLY going to offend someone. It just makes the environment less enjoyable for everyone involved, they get offended, and you get angry that you were reported. Wonderful, and who wins?

Accidents, or casual offensive remarks happen, and who cares about that, but blatant attempts to make this place a craphole should simply be removed.

You should report a question so others don't get blinded by it. You could say this with any other topic. If racism bothers you, are you going to just ignore it? You shouldn't.

I have reported questions that are about being abusive sexually or physically to children.

I will report those kinds of questions every time I see one.

I ignore other questions I don't like.l

If it offends you what do you think the chances are of it offending others?

Somethings should never be said. Someone will always take offense.

So what you're saying is that it's ok for some people to be rude, crude and down right disgusting, posting things that children shouldn't see and we should just turn our backs and say "That's ok, I shouldn't report that because other people on YA will think I'm a snicth and OMG, Like, I'm just sooooooooooooooo worried what y'all think, that I won't report that!"

hmmm, I suppose the next thing you're going to tell me is that it's ok for child molestors to do what ever they want and I should just turn my back and ignore it because IT'S NONE OF MY BUSINESS!!

No, especially now with the new reporting method...some of the questions are just plain crude...and they can be taken out...

I have thought that before.

You can always tell who was the "tattle-tale"in grade school. They are the ones who report questions all the time. Why don't people just mind their own business!!!

It's the whole politically correct thing. It's all out of hand. People need to just chill....put on some Sinatra...light some candles....hug their mate, their kid, or their pet...have some cocktails...close their freakin' eyes...and chill...yea...that's it...chill...uh huh...you got it...
