im a boy and im 15 years old and it is one of my dreams to become a movie star. What's the best thing to do? Should I apply to join a drama school like the National Youth theatre, where many successful actors and actresses have been?
Thanks for your answers, much appreciated ;-)

I think you're on the right track. Geting into theatre, classes, performing whenever and wherever you can is the right idea. I would absolutely stay away from a website that charges $300! Or any business for that matter that charges such an up front fee. There are so many these days promising you the world for a fee... Classes are one thing, of course you need to pay for those. But in my opinion, that should be separate from a photographer and agencies and management. Don't fall for any pitch that tries to lure you in with promises of stardom for a fee. All they want is the money.

The tride and true method is getting into classes that teach you acting technique, on camera, audition, etc. Working and building a resume in theatre, using backstage.com & actorsaccess.com to gain access to legit auditions which will also build your resume. Once you have a solid background in training and several credits on your resume you get an agent and go for it! Being male, you have a better shot since there are so many more females who want this. Theatre is hurting for boys. If you can sing, dance and act you've got it made.

Best of luck,
Marianne

The best thing to do is to plan to work for a long time to get there. National Youth Theatre is a good deal, but you cannot count on it to make you a star or even a bit player. Summer acting camps are a good idea as well.
I advise young actors on becoming professionals. I do not charge for my advice. Read my profile and write to me at my aol address.

I am a young teenager myself, and I too want to be an actor. (or actress) If you don't have lots of experience right now get some. Build up your resume with local theater, school theater, and independent films. Some people join a small agency first. Smaller local agencies will get you jobs, maybe not HUGE jobs, but they are something to add to your resume. After your resume is built up with a decent number of plays, commercials, and small parts in movies or tv shows, then you send your resume to a bigger agency. Don't expect it to come over night though. If you do you'll find yourself dissapointed. Be patient and get plenty of training. Become the best actor you can.
