Once removed, if the cousin in question is a first cousin.

From genealogy.com:

"Your second cousins are the people in your family who have the same great-grandparents as you., but not the same grandparents.

The words "once removed" mean that there is a difference of one generation. For example, your mother's first cousin is your first cousin, once removed. This is because your mother's first cousin is one generation younger than your grandparents and you are two generations younger than your grandparents. This one-generation difference equals "once removed."

She's your first cousin once removed. Your child and your cousin's child would be second cousins. You are uncle to your own siblings' child(ren). You would be great uncle to your siblings' grandchildren. It can all get pretty complicated.

In my culture (SE Asian) you would be her uncle. Cousins are treated like brothers and sisters, so their kids are your nieces and nephew. This leads to major confusion and resulted in me being a "grandma" at the age of 16!

But in Western Culture, she is technically your first cousin once removed.

'Second cousin' is more common terminology.

'First cousin once removed' is also acceptable.

Great question!
