The 2008 Election draws closer and I've been wondering for some time about this...

I have my opinions and suggestions and I'll submit them at a later time.

But for now...

Do you think a woman would make a competent president?
Why or why not? (what's your logic)
Who do you want to be president?
Why?

While I hold women in high standard and i do admit that women are usually smarter than men. Most women tend to react to a specific situation replacing their logic with their emotions. While I do think that in some situations a woman can react far more superior to a man. But, in a major crisis or in a war...i think not.

I however do not argue the fact that men can react just as rash but those incidents are usually fewer and farther between.

I'm not trying to force opinions I'm just interested at looking at everybody's logic.

Yes I think that a woman would be able to make a good president but it depends on the woman. Being a woman does not necessarily mean that you will be a good leader or a bad leader, similar to the fact that a man could make a competent president but obviously sometimes they dont. (eg. George Bush). I think HIllary Clinton may be a "competent" president but I do not think she will be a very good president. In my opinion she is leading in the poles primarily because, 1, She has the most money of all the democrats (with a lot of that money coming from special interest groups and lobbyists.). 2, She was the first lady and people know and recognize her name. People think that she has more experience then candidates such as Barack, but she acutally has less time spent as an elected official. As first lady she failed to pass health care reform and did not accompish anything worth mentioning. 3, She is a woman, and she will get many votes from women who just want to see a woman as president and dont consider her flaws. I think that she will fail in implementing such a drastic change in our health care to socialized medicine. She will handle foreign policy much in the same way the presidents over the past few decades have, which for the most part has been terrible. We need a president who will bring the country and does not have a majority of people in the country that hate him/her.

Yes, but i don't think that means Hilary Clinton should be president... really she has the clinton name, and a lot of people loved Bill Clinton... despite his personal issues... It is more like the name brand of the presidency I think that appeals to people.

I think women would make a competent president because throughout history women have made very strong and competent leaders, i think because they are more likely to heed the warnings of the wise councel they appoint.
I want Obama to be president because I think it would be nice to see change in the White House. America is ready for change I believe... And we cannot have that change by setting up an administration that already had it's 8 years. Hilary Clinton will have the same loyalties to the people that her husband did if not more people. Now do people get nervous at the thought of having a bi racial man and his african american wife in the white house... only the racist people do... but that might even break down racial barriers if he gets elected and does a great job, and I have a feeling those same people would rather a black man then a white women. But go Obama in 08...!

Race does not remember. i will think of of many blacks qualified to be president: Walter Williams, Thomas Sowell, Michael Steele, JC Watts, just to call some. gay does not remember. Handicapped does not remember. woman does not remember. What concerns isn't any remember if that guy or woman grow to be a conservative or no longer. Liberals have in no way gained a nationwide election ever.

I agree with the first post. Women in general I have no problems with. Hillary is a different story. I'll vote for a woman president when someone like Maggie Thatcher or Golda Meier runs!

The right woman would make a fine President. If we have a woman around who is similar to Margret Thacher (former Prime Minister of England) I would vote for her over everyone on the Republican ticket or any other ticket.

Happy New Year!

Yes.
Ron Paul, because of his positions on the issues.
Second choice, Barack Obama.
Sandra Day Oconnor would of made a great president, way better than GWB, that's for sure!

Depends on the woman, but certainly not Hillary. She is a coat tail rider and the incompetent who dropped the ball on health care when we had our best chance.

And how could the country keep it's sanity if we all have to listen to that wench and her speech voice. Ack ack ack, ack ack ack. Worse than fingernails on a chalkboard.

After all this country has been through and achieved and we still have people with the ignorance to generalize the actions of more than half of the US population according to gender. I will vote for the person that best represents my views and my hopes for the direction of this country - I don't assume ability is correlated to genitalia or tan. I want a president whose agenda is the welfare of this country and its people, and not their own pocket or fame.

I'm sure there are plenty of women in America that are capable of being a good President.

It depends on the woman. Sen. Clinton, No. There have been many great women leaders in the past. Thatcher, Meir, Ghandi, to name a few.
