The USPS attempted to deliver a package to my house on 12-22 since I was not home they left a notice stating that it would be available for pickup on 12-24 after 9am and that it required a signature. I went to the post office on 12-26 to pick up the package but it wasn't there. I have come to find out that they delivered it on Sunday and left it on my doorstep where it was stolen. Is the post office responsible for replacing the contents since they did not abide by what the notice said?

The sunday delivery has been verified by both my neighbor and my post office. They were trying to get all christmas packages delivered. I was also told I was not the only one this happened to

It was not insured nor was signature required by the sender but the paperwork they left said signature would be required and that it would be available for pick up on Monday

the only reason they required a signature at pickup is because they weren't delivering it to you.

If they tried to deliver it to you, and its not a certfied letter or piece of mail (sig required by sender) then they are not responsible.

But about your neighbor who "confirmed it was sent on Sunday," did they see anyone walk up to your front door and take the package? I find it hard to believe they can confirm a package was delivered but they have no clue or recollection of someone picking it up.

Either way, they doesn't deliver mail on Sundays (the USPS), ever I am fairly sure of.

If the sender paid for a 'signature required' delivery, then the sender can sue the postal service.

Since there is no mail delivery on Sunday, how do you know that USPS left it on your porch?

Postal regulations allow carriers to leave mail at the door, unless the sender says otherwise.

USPS did not deliver jack on a Sunday. USPS is closed on Sundays.

Ignoring that, if it required a signature and you didn't leave something with your signature stating that they were to leave it, then yes, they are responsible.

No. They are not responsible. Additionally, the post office does not make deliveries on Sundays so I think you are confused.

If it was sent insured, a claim can be submitted - but that has to be done by the sender, not the recipient.

As a rule, their t/s tell you they will not be responsible for any contents that are not shipped with insurance.
