Pakistan is a powerful country. She has the 6th largest population in the world, and what's more important, they have A-bombs. Now add the turmoil that has been going on; the conflicts with India and inside the country.
It wouldn't be good to have an instabil nuclear power. Also, Pakistan supports the "war on terror", she is an important ally for the West.
Bhutto was corrupt, but she once lead Pakistan out of dictatorship to democracy, and this was expected again. Let's hope everything will be ok (as much as it is possible).

I can tell you one thing. Pakistan does have nuclear weapons. The fact that the country has been disrupted (once again) is a threat for the protection and security of those nukes. Of course, an assassination warrants talk of terrorism, as it obviously wasn't Musharraf walking down the street and shooting her, but it has caused much chaos to break out in Pakistan. While the country is not smiled upon by the West, it certainly has remained relatively stable beneath Musharraf. Bhutto seemed promising in terms of keeping that stability. Sharif, the new opposition leader, seems like to stir things up and perhaps turn Pakistan into a great enemy. This is why Bhutto's assassination is tense and on the news. While we don't know who specifically killed Bhutto, the motive is clear. Someone wants to gain power over her, whether it is current PM Musharraf or the Opposition, Sharif. This greatly tips the scale of Pakistan's promising future in the wrong direction.

No one really knows for sure what happened. But the facts are that she was a very powerful woman. Look into the Islamic religion. There are NO powerful women. She tried to spread democracy through the Pakistan nation and opposed terroristic activity, making her a major ally in the US' war on terror.
That could be the reason why it is such a big deal.

Bhutto’s death makes former prime minister Nawaz Sharif Pakistan’s top opposition figure. Sharif has attempted to appeal to Islamic militants, arguing that Pakistan needs to pare down its cooperation with the United States.
Bhutto opposed the fundamentalists’ dark vision for Pakistan and was openly pro-West.
The most likely culprit is Al-Qaeda; this indicates their growing resurgence and power in Pakistan.

Are you kidding? This is a major disaster for those who wish for a better future for Pakistan in terms of progress, prosperity and the suppression of fundamentalist terrorism. Mrs. Bhutto holds degrees from American and British Universities, was popular in her own country as a champion of democracy and opponent of tyranny and was well regarded and respected in the international community as a brave and intelligent woman. Pakistan needed her and the tragedy is there is no-one there it seems with her intelligence, vision and purpose to succeed Musharaff
