I'm not a NY Mets fan, but I would like to hear what Mets fans from around the nation think about their satisfaction or dissatisfaction with their offseason acquisitions/trades/free agents. After a monumental collapse in 2007, I thought Omar Minaya would have Arthritis in his hand from writing so many checks this off season to add players to their roster. It hasn't happened. So, I ask...what are your thoughts on the 2008 NY Mets. Thanks

I am not outraged by any means. Why would Omar be signing checks left and right for free agents when the market out there for pitching is so poor? Should he have given Silva and Lohse four years? Should he give Livan anything? Colon? These names are all mediocre or worse. People who actually follow the team, instead of just checking the website once a week and whining when there is not a huge trade, know that Omar has been in discussions for EVERY ace-type pitcher available such as Santana, Bedard, and Haren. The Met farm system simply cannot match up to that of the Yankees and Red Sox and Diamondbacks and Dodgers and other teams like that.

The only real hole in the Met team is starting pitching. The bullpen is underrated and Omar has been smart by not throwing money down the drain on guys like Linebrink and Vizcaino. Instead, he stockpiles power arms and good young talent that he has drafted in the past.

Do I think the Mets are a first place team right now? No. I actually think they might be a third place team; however, I continue to have faith in Omar Minaya who is responsible for restoring credibility into this franchise after the pathetic run of 2002-2004.

I WAS SPEECHLESS FOR DAYS, i was so shocked/upset. They need to be able to go out and work on their PITCHING! JOHAN IS WAY TOO PRICEY, THEY SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN DAN HARREN WHEN THEY HAD THE CHANCE! He is a solid starter who was tons less than Johan. They need starters that can go those 7 inning starts every game, Also we need for Oliver Perez and John Maine to step up, they both won 15 games last year which is very good, we need they both to be at least 18 game winners this year, i know it may seem some what as an unrealistic goal, but if they do the mets offense will be able to put this team at 100+ wins this season, So bottom line is if the mets can reel in 1 or 2 soild starters this year who can last the whole year and give them 10 to 15 wins, the Mets will be going places. The addition of Ryan Church and Brian Snyder will help alot, synder is a very good defensive catcher, not to shabby at hitting and Curch is a very nice improvement over Shawn Green. The offense can get it done, if the mets can get 1 or 2 more decent starters to pitch in the 5 or 4 spots in the rotation, Look out post season, cause here come the Mets!

Outraged? No. I was outraged when they blew a Division Championship by playing with all the urgency of a coma patient.
Sadly, this year's free agent crop didn't have much to offer and the Mets decided not to sell out their future, which was a good thing, by trading their up and coming youngsters (other than Milledge who apparently wasn't much of a team player).
The '08 Mets should be roughly the same as the '07 Mets, a team with a lot of offensive firepower and questions around their starting pitching and, particularly, their middle relief.
I think if Minaya had started making wholesale changes based on the last two weeks of last season, it would have been a mistake. The worst time to evaluate talent is when you're either too high or too low and I'm pretty sure no one in the Mets organization had ever felt lower than they did on October 1, 2007.

The man is an idiot, and must be fired. I used to like Omar, but he is foolish to think that the Mets are "champioinship-calibre" when their rotation will be:
O.Perez-this is fine

J.Maine-this is fine too

O.Hernandez-he could be 100 years old for all we know

P.Martinez-coming off rotator cuff surgery

M.Pelfrey/P.Humber-both have very limited experience and success at the major league level.

He laughs when people tell him to get a new starter and says that rotation is fine. And all he did to improve the bullpen was fire Mota, he didn't add anyone. He picked up an offensive loser in Schneider and an offensive winner in Estrada and fired Estrada, any totally disrespected the fine-hitting Castro by informing him that he is a "backup". He's crazy, but with the weakness of the NL, the Mets will still win the pennant, but get swept by Boston easily in four games in the WS.

I'm not a Mets fan, but I have no problem with how they're doing things this offseason. They dumped a lot of expensive, old players, and now they have money to play with. Their lineup is essentially set, and their pitching is decent if Pedro and Maine are healthy the whole season. Could they have made more moves? Yeah, of course, but they saw the weak free agent market just like everyone else did. My only beef with them is trading away Milledge for practically nothing when he could have netted them Zito a year ago. Oh well.

I'm not outraged over this, there is still another 3 months before opening day; thats more than enough time to improve the pitching.

What I was outraged over was them blowing a 7-game lead with 17 games left to play. The Phillies didn't win anything, they were handed the NL East title.

The trading season has just started and the Mets have plenty of time to improve their team. They have some money to spend and they will be competitive again in 2008. No need to be outraged now just to be happy again when they make some good moves.

the area the Mets needed the most help, starting pitching, there were not quality players there. Silva signing for $12 million is grossly overpaid and I'm glad we didn't go after him. I just hope we don't go after Lohse either, he stinks. The Milledge trade didn't make much sense to me because he's such a young player and you traded him for a part time catcher and outfielder.

My thoughts are that, when Shea Stadium is demolished, Met fans are going to want Omar and a few of his players still inside. Another season, another failure. The Curse of Kevin Mitchell lives.
