I really doubt it. I tried out for Jeopardy in 2004. They give you an oral, group and a written quiz. What happens is through word of mouth potential contestants share the types of material that should be devoured, poured over, memorized, formulated.
From what I saw, there is no study guide. Reading encyclopedias, almanacs, biographies, timelines, dictionaries and things like that really did help.
If you google Jeopardy study guides or contestant tips, there is good information to prepare you. I think it is best to just confidently rest on your general knowledge.

From what I've heard, no they don't get a study guide. However, when watching a show and a contestant gets a few correct answers in a given category, but mispronounces more than one answer, I get the feeling that they must have recently read about it, but have never heard about it in conversation.

Contestants are given survey to fill out to identify their areas of expertise or interest. They are also given a short quiz to identify which categories would work out well. When the categories are decided for a game, they consist of mixture various categories from the quizzes and lists that the contestants indicated, generally a few from each contestant and especially if there are some interesting categories that overlap. They do this because it would be bad for the show should no contestants have any answers although this has happened on a couple of occasions.

the contestants are paid not to reveal the study guide process. the show also plans questions in the contestants' area of expertise. there are too many almanacs to be able to find the one almanac that has the odd ball Q and A.

One of my college professors was on Jeopardy, and he didn't mention anything about a study guide while recounting his story to us.

NO. I was on the show and won twice (June, 2007) You do not get any study guide or any clue about what the categories will be. And btw, they do not pay for your airfare and hotel.

I think Bob (2 years ago) has the right idea. There are "Cliff's Notes" types of JEOPARDY! study books and manuals that contestants can READ ON THEIR OWN. ( Hence those phonetic mispronunciations that stick out like sore thumbs) . If there was any prompting in the least by the show itself, some disgruntled past contestant would have blown the whistle by now. I doubt that Alex or anyone connected to the show would be any party to something like 'coaching' contestants anyway.
