My brother has a PSP and I have a DS, so I figured I'd bring those. There's a DVD player in the car, but we don't have any new movies and the kids will only sit still for so long.

I guess I could bring coloring books. Maybe some snacks like Goldfish or something. Ummm ...

See, the thing is we're going to be doing most of our driving during the day. So I need ideas of stuff to keep them not-annoying!! xD

Also, we leave tomorrow (I pretty much just found out) so there's no time to go out and buy anything ...

And if you have any ideas for kid songs, tell me because I'm planning to make some CDs. The kids love songs like Who Let The Dogs Out and stuff like that.

Whatever songs your putting on that cd, make sure their not going to make you crazy! Trust me, theres this song that goes "boom boom aint it great to be crazy" and it just repeats itself over and over again, we had to listen to that for 16 hours in the car. If they each have their own cd players, don't worry about it.

Also, don't forget any car charges you may have, if that PSP dies or the DS, than their goes have your entertainment.

Colorbooks are a great idea, be sure to bring extra paper too so they can write.

For a list of kids songs, google the "kid bop" cd's and just choose a bunch of songs from their.
Heres a link to the newest cd:

and the cd before that:
http://www.kidzbop.com/cd_album/95
and then one more:

Also, if you download them from frostwire/limewire, try downloading the kidz bop version, their more fun for kids because their sung by kids and don't have any swear words.

Car games are fun! We went on a long trip for about 6 hours, and we played a game that we titled "Waving Weirdos." The game is played by waving at a car beside you, and for every person that waves back, you get one point. Also, if you get a truck driver to honk is horn, it's ten poitns. Try to get up to 50 points for each hour your traveling.

kids can be entertained by just about anything. coloring books, snacks, travel games (yunno, the games that are magnetized so the pieces stay put, if you have any), even string keeps them busy. And as far as I can tell, kids don't really care if the movie is new or not.
Mostly what I do is put on my headphones, turn on my mp3 player or CD player (loud enough that I can't hear them too much, but not loud enough to annoy any adults that might be in the car) and turn on my DS. If you don't have a CD player or mp3 player, demand the front seat and focus on your game. they'll leave you alone most of the time.

There's lots of simple stuff. Teach them how to read a map and spot road signs that tell you where you are, what's coming up next, and how long it will take to reach each place. It can be fun and educational. Make a game of spottng license plates from other states and looking the states up in a road Atlas. Keep track of how many of each you see that isn't from your own state. Lots of cars and trucks even have county and city names on them somewhere too. That should help kill some time and keep them busy for at least part of the trip.

Search the web for some car games the older ones can play (the 4 yo can "help") like the alphabet game (find each letter of the alphabet on signs, each person takes a turn with letter A-Z) or the license plate game (see how many different states/types of plates you can find)...we have car bingo cards, you could see if you can find those locally or a couple of car games to bring (small scrabble, connect 4, etc.). If you can find the time a few bucks a trip to the store may help. We used to make signs up on blank paper like honk if you're happy to see how many people would honk their horns..Good luck!!!

Just make sure you have movies that they like... Ummm... You can play car games... I don't know... I just went on a long trip... I am your age.. But, I had my 14 year old sister and my brother is 9 so that made it easier... I just brought movies that my brother liked and we bought a new one for him.
