Maybe I am worng but wasn't she the Prime Minister before and was sent in exhile out of the country and returned this year to take part in the elections and was asked to run by her party? I believe she was the PM in the 90's. Her death is very tragic and people responded to her. I mean she was the target of an attack in the fall and 150 people were killed, yet people still wanted to and did attend her speeches. Think of how different that is from the US-record voter turnout is what less than 15% of the reg voters showing up? That amazes me. People in Pakistan must have really seen in her the chance for change and a better life. It is really sad for her to be killed for trying to help and effect change.
I think that in other cultures, people can see more of the message and less focus is given to the person. Here we pick a leader based on the package they present (clean, well prepared, etc) and less on the ideas they hold. I would hope that the voters in the US will not right off Hillary just because she is a woman. That would be so short sighted. You elect based on what the person brings to the table and how they can benefit the nation. I am sad for Pakistan today, I think she would have done great things. And I think it is wrong to say that the people of Pakistan are just third world etc and wrtie them off. Keep in mind that Pakistan has nuclear weapons. It is narrow minded to not care just because you have a perception that they are not on "your level". That is even more insulting to me than saying should a woman be in a position of great power.

Nothing. Leaders should be voted on by their capability to perform the job, not gender. If we are to elect a woman president, it should be because she is the best candidate, not because she is a woman. Maybe it's just a case of the US not having any female candidates as capable to lead as former Pakistani prime minister Bhutto.

Yes. The US is a narrow uptight country that will only elect wealthy white and supposedly Christian men.
There have been many women leaders elsewhere in the world, and many is the woman who has tried to run against the loaded system here.
Time to stop the hypocrisy, don't you think?

Swell, a woman to rule over a country that still lives 90% of its population in dirt and dogshet.
Yeah, great accomplishment.
