Good question. When you get the answer, please let me know.
Where do you bleeding hearts come from. You think it's terrible that someone like that Peterson butcher should be loved and cared for after he killed and innocent woman and her unborn child, just so he could have another girlfriend and no alimony or child support.
What about that idiot Charles Manson, had his "girls" cut a nine month old child out of the belly of its mother because they were hi on drugs and it amused them, forget all the other people they slaughtered. We should love and coddle this sicko.
What about the jerk in Northern Calif. who not only killed people he worked with but his wife, her mother, and sister then he took his three baby girls for a ride to the dump and after cutting their little throats, through them away like so much garbage.
One child lived, by the grace of God, sports a Hugh scar across her throat and nightmares for the rest of her life. Oh, lets don't kill him, he's so sweet. Let's feed and house the darling for the rest of his life.
You people talk like every man on death row is innocent of any crimes and we shouldn' Tput any of them to sleep, they might not have done it. BULL ****.
Get off your fat behinds, go view some woman, men or children that have been beaten, cut, slashed, shot, dismembered and so on then come back and tell me about all the sweethearts we're supporting on death row.

The answers you have already are very good. Most people, including those who support the death penalty, do not want an innocent person to be executed.
Of the 126 people on death row who were exonerated, at least 50 had already served more than a decade. If the process were speeded up, as you and one answerer suggest, we would be executing many innocent people.
Under the US Constitution, everyone is entitled to due process of law.
You may also not realize that 48 states (all except for New Mexico and Alaska) have life without parole on the books. It means what it says.
Last of all, to cast concerns about the death penalty as purely "liberal idealism" does a disservice to anyone, liberal or not, who wants our criminal justice system to be as good as it can be, given that it is (and will always be) adminstered by human beings (who are, by nature, fallible.)

Hmmm....while I would like to see the death penalty in extreme cases such as child molesters, and repeat murderers, I do believe every avenue needs to be exahsted first, thus all the necessary appeals. People can make mistakes and most deserve at least ONE second chance, including the judicial system........for it has been known to make many mistakes in regards to sending innocent people to rot in prison. One thing any gov'e could do, is make prison more of a prison for the inmates serving time there.........no movies on HBO, no pool, weight lifting, sports in the rec yard. Make their daily meals nothing more really than the bread and water we all invision.....I know several people serving lenghtly terms in various prisons, they eat quite well. Limit their computer/internet use to educational only. Make it more of a prison then a 6 month vacation spot where you have no worries about bills, jobs and other life stresses like the rest of us. Put them to work while they are there, doing something that benifits the public as well as the upkeep pf the prison itself. Take away their ciggarettes! Allow them no physical comforts in their cells other than the thoughts in their own heads.....to allow them to reflect on what landed them there in the first place. If we focus more on "rehabilitation" than punishment.........prison becomes a less ominous threat to the average criminal. No judicial system is perfect, and there need to be many changes made. I do think the death penalty at this point would do more harm than good.........

Well, there is always room for error and I think appeals are necessary to protect the innocent. However, I do agree that jail money could be used in may other ways rather than housing cirminals. I think a certain degree of crimes should be punishable by degrees as well. We shouldnt exactly equally punish a thief who steals cars for a living with someone more horrendous as a child sex offender or murderer. I believe there IS something wrong with our system, but nothing is perfect. But appeals are a necessary evil.

Did you know it costs MORE money to put someone to death then to keep them in jail? Do you're research before making your opinion known....
"In 1992, the Dallas Morning News concluded that a death penalty case costs an average of $2.3 million, about three times the cost of imprisoning someone in a single cell at the highest security level for 40 years."
Also...
Innocent people have been killed because of the death penalty! Some have been lucky and made it off death row (years later) but others have been murdered! How will you justify even ONE innocent person being murdered by our government?
www.theexonerated.com
Also how is it a punishment for the guilty to be killed? Isn't it more of a punishment to be left in a tiny cell for the rest of your life (if life in prison really meant life in prison)... If I committed a crime I would rather die then sit in a cell!
Hey, "calm" look into your facts first! and read what people are saying! I don't think everyone on death row is innocent! but a lot of people are! Why should they be killed? The system isn't flawless! How would you feel if an innocent relative of yours was put on death row?
Those people should be punished! But killing them IS NOT a punishment! Most of them want to die! A punishment would be keeping them locked away for life! I don't mean a jail like it is now! I mean a real jail with total isolation! I think we need to reform our prisons to be a real punishment for these types of crimes!
Your will never make me believe I'm wrong... one innocent person put to death makes the death penalty wrong! Your sick if you don't see that! If our government is putting innocent people to death then it should be on death row also!
Use your brain.
No ones heart is bleeding for criminals... it's bleeding for the innocent people... it doesn't matter if there is 1 of them or 100! I believe in making criminals pay... and remember their crime I believe in life in prison along with having to write families that you have heart everyday... THAT work... Death just puts them out of their misery!

Do you have any idea how many people are put on Death Row and then once proper evidence is found and examined they are found to actually be innocent and then set free?
In many cases evidence might not be found or be able to be properly examined right away. Rushed examinations lead to false arrests which can lead to innocent people being killed for crimes they did not commit.
As for the second half of your argument (about the gang members) I completely agree. I think we still need to work on our prison system, but your argument has two completely different issues to it.

The question is fairly deceptive. it rather is no longer approximately abolishing demise penalty yet to alter the way we administer it. which skill, demise penalty maintains to be and how it quite is going to be mete out could count on a case-by skill of-case foundation. If we understand this, then all of us be responsive to the respond could desire to verify we could desire to consistently replace the way the way it rather is going to be administered; and no we could desire to consistently no longer abolish it because it quite is an useful deterrent to those thinking of committing a extreme offence in Singapore. no longer attempting to be a saint right here or play hero, yet human beings do deserve a 2nd risk. notwithstanding, no count if or no longer they deserve it or no longer is a very subjective count. i could think of that the present gadget makes it greater uncomplicated for the decide. You do something incorrect and deserve a demise penalty they administer it. in case you alter the way it is going to be achieved. Then, inconsistencies and issues could upward thrust up. So, the present gadget is working and it quite is giving the decide much less discomfort so shop it. in this occasion, the Msian guy, does he quite deserve a demise sentence, based on the information accumulated? specific? notwithstanding, can the regulation shows some humanity? supply him yet another risk? specific, the president of Singapore can try this. So there is an highway to pardon a demise penalty and it lies on the hand of our President. So in case you look from that attitude, the demise row prisoner does have a final highway to stay alive. It relies upon on the President. So, to all...in basic terms stay sturdy and be effective. Dont flout the regulation, I advise extreme ones. in any different case your life would be on a putting loop....

Death is the ultimate punishment. If a mistake is made the innocent person can't be brought back to life. Recent reliable studies show that Innocent people are executed regularly.
There is little to none "liberal idealism going around." The American justice system is harsh.

You should just hope you are never arrested for something you did not do. Over 200 people have been proved innocent by DNA evidence while they say on death row. Had it not been for those frivolous appeals they would have been executed for a crime they did not commit.
If you are okay with a legal system that randomly executes people that they think are guilty, pursue your idea. I for one am not.
