it's "not" obvious cris. Plus I'm a real estate agent but I see no reason why a single person feels they have to buy, and I see renting just as good as owning because of the foreclosures that are out there and the taxes and insurance costs that have risen recently.

To earn equity.
Tax incentives.
To have more space than apartment living provides.
To be able to redecorate or re-build as he sees fit.
To prepare for married life.
Because he really likes the area, and has no plans of moving no matter what.

He can always rent the house if he should find his living situation changing.

Any single man that owns a home is smarter the the person that asked this question. It's so obvious, there many reason above that are all obvious.

More space, more control over their living arrangement, investment, likes the house, good location, nice amenities.

Basically same reasons a married man would buy one.

Because he wants more space than an apartment.
Because he wants the space if he ever gets married.
Because he thinks the house will go up in value and will be a good investment.

I bought my house as a single woman.
More space to get a dog.
Saves money on rent.
Investment purposes.
I could go on.

Great investment, doesn't have to pay rent, more room, more privacy. Lots of reasons.

because he is smart, its better than flushing rent money down the toilet every month, when you buy a house(provided you can afford it) you build equity, that payment you make every month goes towards you owning something i.e. a house, when you rent, you never see the money again....EVER
