Happiness is simply a state of mind less than a state of being. Your happiness all depends on ur conscience and how u take life around u or how others may effect u which may be good or bad. Many people such as myself included find it impossible to be TRULY HAPPY all around there are too many things in life that get in the way of that such as bills, marriage, kids illness ect... Even if we have a brief moment of feeling happy there's always some of those fears or problems hidden in the back of ur mind causing us not to feel the full fullfillment of all around free from all solid happiness. Therefore there is nothing wrong with u everyone alive with a pumping heart has this issue some more than others and others less. Some however the fear is if they are all around happy no problems really the only thing stopping them fully is the fear something could go wrong such as Murphys Law causing u to fear true happiness in terms of what will happen now that I am 100 percent happy what will come around and ruin it for me or will I ruin it. I know sounds like alot of babble but this is how I see it..

True happiness is unending and eternal and is not of this material concept of life. This so called happiness is just a glimmer of the real happiness one can have. To attain real happiness, one first has to realize that we are not this material body, IE; Race, color, nationality, Religion, mind, intellect, senses, job, etc. We are all eternal spirit souls, part and parcel of the Supreme Soul, also known as Krishna, Allah, Jehovah, Vishnu, etc. We never die, only this mortal body dies. This material world is not our real home, it is called Maya (illusion) and is temporary and full of misery, only one fourth of the souls come here, and the rest are enjoying blissful eternal loving relationships with our Maker named above. We fell here due to envying Gods position. He made the material world for those who want to try to live separately from Him (Which is impossible because He is actually everywhere). After many lifetimes of trying to be happy in this temporary world one becomes frustrated and board and begins to question their existence. We then seek out real happiness, and when one becomes sincere God reveals how to come back Home. Those who are intelligent, take up the process of self realization (Bhakti Yoga) which begins with the chanting of the Maha Mantra (the great mantra for deliverance from all suffering and illusion), which gives one real peace, happiness and reality. Then at the end of life they can give up all material attachments and fully surrender to God and return to the eternal Kingdom, where there is no more birth, death, old age, or disease and be eternally happy. For info. Go to harekrishnatemple.com Read Bhagavad Gita- As it is by Bhaktivedanta Prabhupada asitis.com can be read on line. I am so glad I know real happiness. Everyone can but it is a matter of choice. (Free will)

I used to think that others could only make me happy and I found out that no one can make me happy but myself. True happiness comes from within us. It is all in how we think about things. I had all these things in my life that I wanted and many things I did not get and it depressed me each time. I found out that if you just give up and say I am not going to get them then you start being happy with yourself. Funny thing is when you give up on those things then they seem to happen.
When I got married I thought my husband could make me happy, but it was not his job to do this. It was up to me to make me happy. No one in this world can do it for you. A person has to be happy to be who they are, have strength to carry on and love others to be truly happy with themself..

setting realistic goals and achieving them gives happiness.
(positive thinking interferes with this, as it causes you to set goals too high and then fail to make realsitic choices and work to achieve them: look at Bush's goal to bring democracy to the middle east and his un-failing optimism in doing so!)
besides setting goals and achieving them (such as quests given to you in any computer game, only in real life)companionship is also needed. But a pet dog can provide this sometimes better than a human can, because a dog will not mess up your goals but a human will interfere.

Happiness is striving hard toward a goal you have chosen.
Once you reach the goal, you need another one or boredom, then disappointment set in.

The idea of happiness occurs when you are either experiencing pleasure, anticipating the experience of pleasure or believe that you will live in a state of pleasure in the future.
It exists only in thought.

I am truly happy when there is no conflict within me. When I am totally absolutely one with my inner self. I do not know if you can grasp it but that's my truth about being happy...
