My husband is out to sea for awhile so I have been looking for the right name. I finally came up with the perfect name for our baby boy and all people do is harrass me and try to get me to change it.... cause it sounds dumb or its to hard to spell.... How can I deal with these types of people??
The name I choose is Braedyn. Its Irish and it means "Brave". I thought it was perfect for him.

KJA63 : I know it is Irish. I am Irish and My IRISH grandfather gave me the name. NO one in the US has it. I got it straight from Ireland.... hence why you cant find it.

The name's fine, you can call your child whatever you want. But it's not Irish. The Irish for "brave" is "cróga", and the closest Irish word I can think of that is spelled similar to Braedyn is "bradán", meaning "salmon". Plus, there's no letter "y" in the Irish language. Obviously, call your child whatever name you like, but don't say it's Irish.

Braedyn is not an Irish name and if you got it from your grandfather he's a bit confused.
Shannon:
Braedyn is not a tradtional Irish spelling - there's no "y" in the Irish alphabet.
Irish americans seem to have one thing in common with african americans - they tend to make up lots names that sound traditional but have more owing to people's imaginations.

I like it. It is a traditional Irish spelling as you stated.
Don't worry about other people on here, they just have
wet blankets stuffed up their butts. Plus they are bored.
Bad combination...lol.
Braedyn Quinn/Quinlan
Braedyn Reilly
Braedyn Connor
Braedyn Ferris
Braedyn Flynn
Braedyn Shamus
Brayan is also an irish name similar to Braedyn.
Good luck!

Beautiful name. I heard a Rabi speak once about the naming of a child, he said it is believed that when a Mother chooses a name for her child it is because an Angel came down from heaven and whispered the name in her ear. The naming of a child is sacred and you should not let anyone influence your decision.
And for everyone out there that says it is not just an Irish name, remember that just because the name is heard in other places does not mean it is no Irish, being Irish means that the name origionated there. Jeannie is French (my name by the way) but it is used all over the world but that doesnt mean its not French anymore.

IF you love the name, then that is all that matters!!!
But peoples reactions to the name should give you an idea of how your son is going to be criticized and teased in the future for his name.
I tried looking up the name and the only thing I found is
http://www.babynamescountry.com/meanings/Braden.html
Braedyn... origin English..a form of Braden. And.....
The English name Braden means - broad valley
However.. you if you have been told otherwise.. then that is your call. And You need to trust your sources.
To me.. the "Y" in the name gives it a feminine appearance.
I'm not trying to convience you to change your name. I just hope you consider the way others will perceive the name and your son.
If you love the name, then I guess what others say will not matter & I would thank them for their opinion and simply change the subject.
Good Luck

Wow i like that name. I have heard it before just never spelled like that. There is nothing wrong with it. This is your baby and your the one who has to write that name down for the rest of your life so you should spell it the way you want it. Your son will be used to the spelling when hes older and i am sure he wont care anyway Hes a boy the way he spells his name will mean nothing too him but it may mean something to you. It does not sound dumb it is just different and those people who are picking on you are just ignorant for doing so.

1. I've heard that name before in the US, and I'm pretty sure it's not just an Irish name.
2. Who cares what other people think? Name your kid whatever you want. It's not like you're naming him Apple or anything...
3. Braedyn is a great name, with a strong meaning behind it. I think it'd make your husband proud.
Good choice, good luck!
P.S. Thank God for our soldiers!

Braedyn is a great name. I think the meaning of it fits you and your husband situation because you are both brave, he is brave for being oversees in the navy and you are brave for being his wife.
These people that got something to say are ignorant. Ignore those people. You name hime what is right for you and your unborn child and your husband.

Ask them if they have ever heard they name Aiden. Their answer will be yes to this since it IS included in the top 30 names in the U.S. by popularity. Then simply tell them to make the "Br" sound and put it in front of that.....and THEN you can laugh at them.
I'm a little fiesty too cuz I've had about enough of people shooting down the names I've picked too. I've just opted to stop telling people until they can associate a beautiful baby with it.
