Have you ever thought that God gave you something in exchange of something?
Like me, I'm having a real hard time cutting my hair, it is reeeallly long, I mean It's like the length of the top of my thigh. So I want to cut it, a little, but I'm really smart at school, and I've read the bible several times, that story about Sanson and his long hair and his strength. So I'm afraid that if I cut my hair, I might lose my intelligence, I know it's really childish, but I really want to make sure it is all going according to God's word, and I wanted to ask someone for advice too. [ that's where you guys come in] btw. I am 13 years old.
Please no rude answers.
Thanks.

Hey

It's refreshing that you're wanting to do the right thing and please God, really, keep that up.

Samson had to keep his hair long because of a promise his parents made to God, that the growing of his hair was a sign of- the Nazarite vow - (which included not cutting the hair and being solely dedicated to a particular purpose).

You can read the story again for some background. Judges 13:5, 1 Samuel 1: 11

I'm almost certain that neither you or your parents made that kind of promise so you can be sure that cutting your hair will not harm you in any way.

If you're scared about it, talk to your mom or someone else you trust about it. If you do want to cut it, go right ahead.

It'll grow back in no time anyways.

Cheer up. : )

Actually the story of Sampson was an illustration. It is not meant to take it that hair has anything to do with Intelligence. Albert Einstein was said to be one of the smartest people ever and he had wild, bushy shorter looking hair. Having your hair trimmed is a way to keep it healthier and to help avoid split ends. It would also take less time to dry and less tangles if it is not down to the length of one's back or further. I would not base your intelligence on your hair. Hair is designed for warmth on the scalp, not for seeming smart or dumb. There are some smart bald men.

I feel that if you look past the hair issue and realize that you were given a gift of intelligence you are smart enough to see that with knowledge comes wisdom and it isn't in your hair.

Sampson was not very "street smart" to have been deceived by Delilah. His lack of judgement about her or his trust in her was his problem with what she ended up doing.

what people have said about you not making any promise or oath to God about hair is logical...

but look at it this way, how do you feel about your hair? how does your long hair make you feel? odd? unique? special? happy? talented? intelligent? how does it feel? what does your heart say? that is really what should guide you.

cutting your hair is a big issue, not as asimple as people say it here that you aint bound to any promise so cut it, and as you may have seen.

personally, i have kept my hair since birth, i havent cut it since i was born. it aint as long as yours, but it makes me happy. i do have bad hair days, but i get over it and am the happiest.

from a biblical point of veiw, your hair is your glory, it is your crown. so wear it proudly.

you can get it trimmed at the edges, and basically just maintain it with dignity, with pride, and with a happy attitude. i bet you there is someone out there who is envious of your long hair. there are many out there who once upo a time had hair that long and cut it off, and it wont ever grow again, and they are regretting the choice.

the good is side of having long hair, is maintain well, and when you grow older, you can use it to advertise hair products and be the cover girl of some magazine.

look at it from a positive angle, both biblical and human.

this is your glorious crown, wear it proudly

best regards...wish you a safe and happy transition into the new year

I think that's the most time anyone has said or typed some form of the word serious in a paragraph. I seriously think you deserve an award.

This was a story that used Samson's keeping his hair uncut as a metaphor for his obeying God. You did not enter into a promise of any kind with God. You are not bound by an oath. There is no connection between the two things for you. Rest easy.
C. :)!!

That was Samson. And he had made a promise.

You did not, and anyway we no longer live in the Old Testaments times. If you want to cut your hair, go ahead. And if you don't like it, it will grow back.

As for me, I'm one of those people that *can't* have long hair: The weight and heat of it on my scalp and neck make me sick and headachy- not a pleasant sensation. But I do keep it long enough to have curls!

God gave you intelligence and beautiful hair; you are very blessed. I don't believe that cutting your hair will change your intelligence at all. Think about it; you were probably a smart baby, but you didn't have long hair then!
