I think one of the first that comes to mind is of course is John Mayall.....but Jimi Hendrix,"ERIC CLAPTON", Chuck Berry, Bo Diddy, Mason Williiams,John Mayer, The great JJ Cale ...Hey Willie Nelson is great...even Joni Mitchell....Great music and Amazing Guitar players come from those years it can not be done....
To pick one as The Best....
Edit: I could edit this a thousand times with the great guitat players from The 60's ad The 70's

WOW, there are a lot to choose from...Stevie Ray is well known. But I like the fact that Mason Williams showed up on your list. He's great. Another over looked pro is Roy Clark...yep, of Hew Haw fame.

Brian May from Queen is my favourite but Eric Clapton is a close second.
