Basically, the majority of the film took place in the library, so with the proper sets, that would've been perfect for the stage, (with Mr. Vernon's office off to the side.) Also, the sets would be rotated to include the hallways and the gymnasium. As well, there were only six main characters in the whole film, so there would be enough room on stage for six actors reciting their lines. I saw the movie, but I often wonder if it would've been more successful if it started its life, or evolved, as a stage production.

If you were going to see a play, would this be something you'd go for?

I actually think it would have made a good stage show...
The only part that would have been hard to recreate was when Judd Nelsons character falls through the ceiling... and the pivotal walking through the football Field looking at the earring scene... As far as lines and story lines go it would be simple...
Wonder why there hasn't been a high school that has tried to do it yet...oh yeah they have all been brainwashed by High School Musical and High School Musical 2...shame shame

On Broadway? Not so much. The intended audience for "The Breakfast Club" is teenagers who are not regular patrons of the theater. Especially in 1985. Film was the best medium to reach its audience.

If it were adapted today for school productions, and the language was curbed a bit, then it would have a good chance of succeeding.

As a HUGE Fan of the movie, Now i think it would be intrusting to see as a play. But if it had originated from a play i think only a small group of people would have been exposed to it so the popularity would have suffered from it.
