Chiropractic is based on the premise that a vertebral subluxation or spinal joint dysfunction can interfere with the nervous system and result in many different conditions of diminished health.

However there is no proof whatsoever that this premise is true. A man named Daniel David Palmer just made it up in the late 1800s and for some reason, some people believed it to be true.

Don't get sucked in by these quacks.

If it is a reputable chiropractor, then they probably aren't a "quack." They are medical professionals who really do help a lot of people. I would talk to other customers of the chiropractor, if possible, to find out about their experiences. Also, if you do choose to go again or would like to win over your parents, I would research back pain and chiropractors (and their successes) This way, you will know what you are getting into (and what they might do during appointments) and also prove that their is medical backup behind their practice. I don't mean this offensively, but often times the reason someone doesn't like something is simply because of ignorace. Your parents don't seem to know about chiropractors and the industry, and they are letting their false pretenses get in the way with helping you with a problem (which could get even more serious if you do not address it) So instead of just getting upset with them, educate them. And when you talk to them in several months, all problems fixed (or on the way to recovery) the success will speak for itself. Good luck!

Being a medical person, I was hesitant to go to a chiropractor about my back pain. After 4 years of suffering, I decided to go and it has really helped. It is not the complete answer, but I can walk better and require less Advil.

I have severe lower back problems. I am now waiting for a surgery date. Before I started going to my chiropractor I could barley walk. Now, even with the pain I still have at my L5 disc I am doing much much better. It was him that found the problem and did what he could. He was also the one who referred me to my surgeon who is one of the best in my area. Honestly I don't know what I would have done without him.

Depending on where the aches and pains are..and what caused them...like if you were in an accident and your neck or back ached....a chiropractor would be excellent. They can also help to prevent headaches...I suffered from migraines for years...and [knock on wood] I haven't had one in almost 7 years due to chiropractic care.

I think chiropractors set you up to go see them for the rest of your life. They don't teach you anything and the manipulations are very short term solutions. If you are having a problem with spine, neck, shoulders, etc. go see your primary care and get a referral to a physical therapist. They will teach you exercises and modifications to every day activities that you can use for the rest of your life. Instead of paying for a chiropractor for the rest of your life, try a physical therapist for a few weeks.

They are only a quick fix. Supplement muscle healing with yoga.
If they straighten out your bones you'll still have the muscles pushing and pulling the joints out of wack again. need some therapy that'll help in the long run. Yoga is great preventive and you can do it at home.

It helps, but the thing with chiropractic is that, manipulating the spine is kinda like cracking your knuckles, you have to keep doing it indefinitely, or the joints start hurting again...sometimes even worse than before you started cracking them.
