As often as possible. I take happiness from small things - a beautiful sunset, a smiling child, a funny story, a good book. I go out of my way to do things that make me happy - go to concerts (oddly enough, many bands that do heavy, depressing songs make me happy), go to art galleries, volunteer to help people who really need it.
Figure out what makes you happy, and find ways to avoid what makes you unhappy. Sometimes you have to compartmentalize - when my father was dying, it was hard to be happy, but it was more important than ever. The last thing I wanted was for my dad to feel like he was making my life miserable, so I had to put the background sadness aside and make sure I included things that made me happy in my life, even though it somehow felt inappropriate at times.
Providing services to those who really need it - volunteering to help the homeless, contributing to toy drives, food drives, charities and so forth, is one overlooked way to feel happy. I think I may be happiest when I am anonymously helping others who really need it,

I feel happy for at least a part of nearly every day. There was a long stretch of days this year during which I never felt happy, but I know that was my depression coming back. So, I went to the doc and got a prescription for antidepressants. Now, I am feeling happy for at least a part of nearly every day again.

Besides the birth of my daughters who are 32,28 and 15 I can't remember really feeling very happy. My doctor says it's because I have chronic depression and it's hard to feel happy when you're constanlty dealing with depression. Even with the help of medication It doesn't make me feel really happy it just makes it easier not to feel totally depressed all the time.

Content all the time. I felt happy last week, at my students' Christmas party. They really grew as a group in the past year, and I felt proud of them.
