I would call your baby's care provider about this. I was under the impression that BM's should be quite frequent at this age, and don't usually start slowing in frequency until about the 6 week range. Or, atleast this is what I was told by my 9 wk. old son's nurse.

Really, I think a call to the ped. office would in the very least alleviate any concerns you have. Good luck and congrats on the little one!

Edit: Though others are suggesting that you use glycerin suppositories, prune juice, etc., you must contact the doctor before trying any home remedies! 3 wks. is awfully young and constipation could be a symptom of something serious, and treating him with the suggested methods could lead to serious dehydration in such a small baby.

No need to worry... their bodies are adjusting to everything around them and you shouldn't worry unless your baby becomes uncomfortable and needs to get it all out. In the mean time, you can try the rectal thermometer trick or try a little prune juice. If your baby becomes uncomfortable or is in pain, then I would do the glycerin stick in the rear. That is what I do for my son and it works instantly. If you choose to take that route, discuss with your doctor or pharmacist how to and how often to administer that. Good luck and congratulations on the new baby!!!!!

I agree with your one writer about contacting the ped office first for advice. Do not give your baby anything other than breast milk/formula as your baby may become dehydrated and that will make him/her more constipated. Good luck and keep us posted in the meantime.

Yes, 3 days is a lot. Ask the doctor or hospital immediately.

Regular as in pooping? eating? what are you asking? If it is pooping then it is normal. Talk to your Dr. or you can use those glycerin supositories (sp?) to help him/her out.
