All I have to say is that is what you get when you put wild animals in a cage and think they will act civil. And what is with people shooting endangered animals to death dont they have tranquilizers at the zoo that they have ready. SERIOUSLY!!

ABSOLUTELY AGGREE ! They said this morning that the guys were taunting the tiger & sitting up on top of the wall enclosure & that was where they found the one guys shoe...down in the tiger pit along with blood that proves he was aggravating the tiger. I feel the most sorry for the Tiger. The idiot guy deserved everything he got ! As far as you "Aladdinwa" too bad you don't have a heart ! Plus the zoo should invest in some surveillance cameras to watch for idiots like these 3 young men.

I think the attack was beyond anyone's expectations - no one could have reasonably predicted or prevented this. It was just a freak accident.
I think the boys were foolish and mean to taunt the animal - they certainly didn't deserve to get mauled or killed because of it, but it should be a good lesson to others that animals are always inherently wild and should be treated with respect.
I think the zoo took reasonable precuations to protect the animals and the humans from each other - even the accrediting agency hadn't noted anything wrong with the enclosure during their last inspection.

Yes, sedation would have been preferable, but in an emergency situation when a person's life is in immediate danger (the tiger was actively mauling the boy when police arrived on the scene), I think the use of deadly force was reasonable. If the tiger had simply been cornered or treed somewhere (as often happens with bear and mountain lions in rural or suburban areas), and no one was in immediate danger, then deadly force is not warranted and sedation should have been used.

I guess you didn't read the news very well.
When the police arrived, the tiger was in the act of savaging one of her victims. The police shouted to distract the tiger, and it went for them.
A tranquilizer dart takes 5-10 minutes to work. There was no time for it.
Nobody blames the tiger for acting like a tiger. What happened is not the tiger's fault.
If endangered tigers are not kept in captivity, they could become completely extinct. Many people want to preserve these species, if only in captivity.
Who helped the tiger escape? There's your bad guy, not the police forced to kill this beautiful animal in self defense.

Excuse me? When a tiger is mauling a person, there is no time to shoot a few darts into the animal and wait a few minutes for the animal to fall uncouncious - you need to stop the attack NOW! Yes, it's a tragedy that the tiger was killed, but you should direct your outrage to the person who, accidentally or purposely, allowed the tiger to escape from its enclosure, in the first place.

I wonder what decision you would make if you or Chante were the cop, and YOU came upon the tiger mauling your mother. Would you decide to fire a few tranquilizers and wait for them to take effect? I don't think so. Get out of here, and take your holier-than-thou attitudes with you.
