hi i have a desktop pc and a wireless laptop , both run ok on there own , but when i connect my router to my desktop pc , modem etc , it makes my desktop and my laptop freeze up and go slow , im on virgin broadband 4meg the router is a brand new one belkin , i did not have this problem before it all worked brill and fast , then the router broke and i had to get a brand new one , exatley the same as the broken one , i connected it all up the same but am unable to use them both together now , i have tried resetiing the router un pluggin all the wires and re plugging them all back in , does anyone have any idea why this is happening , as i now have a lovely laptop but am unable to use it ,

You should plug the wan port of the router to the modem's ethernet feed and both desk top and notebook via wired connections first and get them to work this way. I presume the router has at least 2 wired LAN ports.

You must turn the modem and router and pcs off. After at least 0.5 min turn on modem; at least 0.5 min later turn on router and then at least 0.5 min after that turn on desk top and notebook. Make sure both work via wired connection. Go over all configurations of the router and the pc wired ports if neither desk top or lap top work. If one unit works and the other does not, carefully check the LAN port config of the one not working and get it to work. Check your router manual as needed.

Now with both working activate the wireless and carefully follow all steps as outlined in the wireless section of the router manual. Unplug the wireless pc from the wired link and config the router using the wired pc. Check the manual carefully, especially for security. Things should then work.
