My friend told me that in the 1950's Colorado was so cold in the winter, and global warming helped them. She said that people have been saying that this might happen soon, and that the hottest weather will be 70 degrees. Is that true or false? Care to explain!

Do you like science, too? I do. I don't think Colorado will freeze or heat up any differently than any place else. It's natural and I don't think it has anything to do with global warming. Email me and I'll talk to you more about it.

I dont buy into global warming or much of anything the environment whackos and Al Gore have to say.
ya see when I was a kid I saw the rainforrest public service announcements about how we are destroying so many millions of acres each year. If that was true then the rainforrests should have disappeared off the face of the planet in the 80's or 90's. Yet you can still see similar commercials on TV. The earth may very well be going through some changes as does everything in nature but I seriously have my doubts as to how much damage we are inflicting on the ozone layer. I think its a lot of hype and fear mongering and you can bet somewher someone is making a buck off global warming.

There was a slightly world-wide cooling trend from about the mid-1940s to 1980. During this time, glaciers slightly advanced. Since this time, temperature have been rising. Some geologist predict that another slight cooling (of about a 40 year length) will start within the next few years. This is the reason that a few decades ago people were worried that we might be entering another ice age, instead of global warming. Perhaps this is what your friend is talking about.

The abstract below (from the 2007 Annual meeting of the Geological Society of America) outlines some of the evidence for these cyclical cooling trends.

False. In the 1950's, Global warming was NOT in effect. And Colorado wont freeze. Global warming is not THAT bad!

I've been to Colorado.
It's COLD in winter, and can be hot at
the lower elevations in summer.
(It gets way above 70 F. everywhere in the summer.)
Global warming is a matter of a few degrees F. and
any change your friend noticed will have been due
to chance variations rather than global warming.

There are other states that are a hell of alot colder than Colorado...so I don't think Colorado as too much to worry about right now. Oh and your friend, is an idiot.,
