In the past two days I've encountered three people who spelled it "Wendsday" -- the way most people pronounce it.

Since mediocrity is becoming increasingly harder to combat, should we just throw in the towel and give up?

Oh, and when I clicked the "Check Spelling" link, it didn't catch "Wendsday" as a mistake. Should I start hunting for a cave to go live in?

Better find a big cave as it's going to get a lot worse yet in the wonderful world of spelling. I suspect part of the problem is that kids today no longer learn why words are spelled the way they are (the eytomology).

I'm constantly horrified by the appalling lack of linguistic capability shown by the under 30 age group. Indeed it appalls me when I hear the language mangled by a university educator, some of whom aren't capable of stringing two words together in a coherant form.

We can largely blame this problem on shoddy teaching, the rise of the lowest common denominator culture, the rise of TV and other mind numbing entertainments coupled with the use of spell checkers rather than old fashioned dictionaries. I could go on and on about this subject but I shall refrain, otherwise I'll need to take some blood pressure medication.

If you find a nice cave let me know ...

---- Edit----

I'd be willing to bet that Wodin must be mighty peeved at the miss-spelling of his day, as for Tiw and Thor and Freya ... enough said. There's a pantheon who aren't best pleased methinks.

New Australian spellings of the days:
Mundi,Tuesdi, Wensdi, Fursdi,Fridi, Satdi, Sundi

Yes, I've noticed this. At first I thought that people were just joking around, trying to pull some strings. For me, the worst part was when I realized that they were being serious about "wrighting". Now I don't know what to think.

There's some pretty nice caves up by the lava tubes near Mt. Lassen in Northern California.

Let's call it what it really is: Either Wodin's Day or Midweek.

In fact, we can revamp the whole week thusly:

Moon Day
Work Day
Mid Week
Thunder Day
Free Day
Saturn Day
Sun Day

Wendsday? My Mozilla spells better than Yahoo's spell checker!

You would then have to change the spelling of most of the words of the English language, since the majority of them makes no sense.

I would suggest 'Hump Day' as a suitable replacement but that makes me think of radio DJs and I think that radio DJs should be forced to live in caves.

Why don't we call it 'WinsDay"...

Better yet, "WinsWinsDay" so that it's perfectly clear that EVERYONE is a winner.

Actually the pronounciation we have now is the lazy American tongue slurring through a very European word. The word originated as "wooden day" (I know. ha!) and it refers to a day designated for wood workers.
