I wouldn't advise it. It may upset his tummy and whole digestive tract. Stick to one kind of formula, even if another kind is on sale.
Take the other kind back to the store and ask for a refund or to exchange it for your normal formula.

you can switch as long as you do it gradually. mix the new formula in with the old. Like 1/4 new and 3/4 old and each bottle add a little more until you are giving him only the new type. But if you do it all at once your baby will get gas and an upset tummy. (been there) My youngest daughter went through 3 different formulas in a 2 week time because of reflux and I always had to change the formulas gradually.
God Bless and Happy New Year.

Switching formulas can cause dirrehea or constipation, but not always. If it were me, I'd take the formula back and get a refund. They'll give a refund or exchange if you have the receipt. I'm a firm believer in "If it's not broke, don't fix it." Why risk messing up the good thing thats going with his current formula?!
If you did decide to switch to the new formula, I'd switch him to it and KEEP him on it. Don't keep changing the formula back and forth as a young baby's body isn't as ready as an adult's to handle variety.

I switched my daughter's formula around 3 1/2 months (free cans from the doctor's office) and we were all miserable. She didn't' take well to the switch.
Switching formulas might upset his tummy. You can introduce the new formula very gradually, 1 bottle a day and if he does well, then increase 1 more a day. Some babies have more sensitives stomachs then other...just see how he reacts to it.
Good Luck!

You don't ever switch formulas unless your baby really can't handle the formula he is on. Don't waste it, return it to the store. If you don't have the receipt ask for store credit. Go to the store and explain to them your husband bought the wrong kind. It will bother your baby and he may be sick to his stomach and crabby for a long time.

If you don't have a particularly picky child, go for it. By now you should know your baby's personality enough to predict how he/she will react. When my little guy was 6 months old, but cheap-o husband asked if we could buy the formula from Costco. I said we could try it one time, and if it wasn't exactly the same, then we'd go back to the expensive one. It ended up being great! (However, i was only supplementing with formula...at that time he was still mostly breastfed.)

try it. start to introduce a few oz of the new formula mixed with the old. if he tolerates it start increasing the new formula ammt and decrease the old. worst thing that can happen is a little indigestion and the waste of one formula can. 4 mnth old should be able to tolerate the change well.

you should not change the formula if he is doing fine with his normal brand, also you shouldn't be the one to switch him, his doctor should, just take it back and if you are trying to save money go see if you are qualified for WIC that helps a lot bc formula will start to get very expensive once he starts eating more

You can change the formula, hopefully baby will like the different taste. I had to change the formula for my daughter around that age because she was really colicky and formed the lactose intolerant food allergy. As long as baby is getting the DHA and the supplements from the formula it shouldn't do any harm.

depending on the kind of formula- if he is on a special formula that for a certain reason then i would not try it. if he is on regular iron fortified formula- then give it a try. he should be fine, but make sure it is something that he can still get all his proper nutrients!
