...gotta admit, even now that I'm much older than I was, when I first started attending the yearly horror film conventions, stupendously sponsored by Fangoria magazine, they are still an absolute blast!!!
...typically, the convention is divided up into three active sections; first, there's the main convention room, where prominent veteran, as well as up-coming horror film stars, producers, directors, writers, and other behind-the-scenes people, both veteran and new, get up on stage, with exclusive footage and previews, and talk about what they've done, what they're doing and what they're gonna do...
...next, there is the screening room, where for two-to-three days straight, they'll show nothing but classic horror and cult films, as well as the occasional world premiere, privvy and exclusive to the convention attendees, only...
...finally, and the best part, is the multi-room exhibit and dealer's area, where everything under the sun, with regards to the horror, sci-fi, and fantasy genres is up for sale, at prices once again exclusive to event attendees; books, DVDs, CDs, comic books, jewelry, posters....you name it, they'll have it. If you so desire to buy a six-foot concrete statue of Freddy Krueger, you'll be sure to find it there!!!
Naturally, as you mentioned, about 10% of the crowd, attending the convention, are in costume...and some of those costumes and make-ups can get pretty damn elaborate, gruesome and gory...and help to supplement the outrageous fun at these events!!!
It is an event, which can prove to be quite memorable; as I said, I have made it a point to go just about every year, and take my word for it...Fangoria has never failed to disappoint. The event almost always sells out, and the Southern California convention, which usually stages itself in either the city of Pasadena or Burbank, has gotten so incredibly big, that next year (2008), they're moving it to downtown Los Angeles, at LA's enormous and elaborate convention center...
...the Fangoria Weekend of Horrors typically tours the states throrought the year; I usually attend around the March/April timeframe, when the convention makes it way to the greater Southern California...
...anyways, check out the Creation Conventions webpage below, for upcoming events...
