does my cable modem need 2 ethernet ports so dat i can connect my pc and my ps3 at the same time? because i just got a ps3 and i wanna play online and i got a pc wit comcast high speed internet so i was wondering what do i need to connect my ps3 to the internet and play online because my cable modem only has one ethernet connection which is being used by my computer can u help please!!!

Apparently your cable modem is just a cable modem, not an integrated modem / router / network switch.

In your case, you need a router. The router WAN port plugs into the modem's ethernet feed. Ther router may have a built in 4 port LAN switch; if so plug one port to the pc; the other to the PS3. If there is only 1 LAN port in the router, you will also need a network unmanaged switch. Connect the router lan feed and the pc and the PS3 to ports in the unmanaged network swtch.

Configure the router as directed by the router maker. Make sure your pc is able to see the internet. The PS 3 should then work as well.

You can't use 2 machines on one modem. You need to buy a router to share the connection.

You need a router. They are pretty cheap.
