i think you should leave on the 30th if you can. that way you can get some sleep and be well rested for all the partying!
make sure you stop in BARSTOW for gas............if you try to make it all the way to STATELINE you'll be sorry.their gas prices are even more outrageous.
make sure to bring enough water and snacks too.traffic is supposed to be horrendous.they are going for another record attendance year.

yikes you will be in wild traffic leave at 2 a.m. on the 31st .... avoid the problems
I make this ride to S. Bernandino and live in Henderson.
I have seen some wild traffic going east when I go west.

the early hours are best.

Here's a map to help you, but I will say I think that's a good time to leave... if you're going to be driving 5 to 6 hours, I think you'll miss the traffic. Also you might want to listen to 1070 a.m. it's all about traffic.

Vegas at new years is going to be tough. I say fly an get a limo, or even take a bus from las and then limo it from the bus station. Here is a grteat site to find limo or other transportation http://lasvegas.nyctourist.com/las-vegas-car-limo.php

Vegas never changes. Go when you have enough gas to get there and back. In the tank.

respond to Chip's answer: mutually as the strip is closed at 6pm, all strip inns have determination procedures (Frank Sinatra or Koval) to get to their parking garages. The closure of the strip has no consequence on once you could park or once you could depart.

That should be ok. You beat "rush-hour" like traffic anyway.
