You can always have your name legally changed.
Do you have a middle name that you prefer? I've seen people go by first initial/middle name, like "R. Charles Smith" and so on.
Anyway, if this is the worst thing that happens to you, you;re not all that badly off. It can be changed if you really hate it.

Nothing stopping you from legally changing your first name. Lots of people do it so why not you?
