If a random stranger gives your car a jump on the side of the road and you later see this person was killed in an accident on TV, would you mourn them?
You don't know them, but they helped you. Raj seems to think it's wrong to mourn someone you don't know. Even if they did something good for you. Kinda wondering what the general GWS think.

Raj: I never heard of those other people. She helped women by proving it's not the end of the world under a womens rule.

i would say yes, mourn them. and celebrate the fact that they were a good person!! how many people actually know a president or princess di or someone famous.. but people mourn them when they die b/c of what they did.
i would mourn them. at least give them the respects they deserve!!

No, it is not necessary for you to go to the funeral or anything like that. Certainly, you are entitled to feel bad for him and mourn if you want, but it is not something that you HAVE to do. You, for one, don't even know him, except for his Good Samaritan behavior on the side of the road. He helped you when you were in need, and that is all.
If you knew him on a personal level, then YES, you should feel bad for him and maybe mourn for him, but in this case, that is not necessary.
Sorry to hear that by the way =(

I would definitely feeling some sort of mourning, not the same feeling as losing someone I know, but a strange sense of, wow, I may have been the last person to see that person alive...

I don't know if I would mourn them per se but I would feel badly and that person would be in my thoughts for a very long time to come. I think of mourning as an outpouring of emotion that lasts for quite some time and I don't think that a person who I didn't really know would inspire that kind of emotion.

Mourn is a bit strong. People tend only to mourn people they are close to. You might feel bad that a good person died, but it's hard to feel more.

Yes, I would. My son and his friend were doing a road trip and saw a family at rest stop. The guy helped them retrieve the keys from the trunk. A few miles down the road they saw that the car had been hit by a semi. They stopped to check and no one survived. They had to stop driving for the rest of the day.
I also said in a previous post - no one can tell a person what emotions to have. That seems a little controlling doesn't it?

Probably not. I have to get to know someone before I can mourn them.

Sure it's ok to mourn. That person did something nice for you once, and now they're gone. It's sad when you see a kind person pass away. I don't think I would cry or anything like that, but it would be a sad moment.

Yes, we should mourn a person's death because it instills humility in each of us.
I will say that once a random stranger helped me change a flat tire on the side of the road, and two months later I saw him at a bar, so I bought him a beer.

It depends on what you mean by "mourn" -- I wouldn't wear black for a year, for instance.
Why would anyone care what Raj thinks? Why waste your time?
