and threatened with 91 months in prison (judge is pushing for the max) if his court appointed lawyer can't get him out of it...He had just gotten his license reinstated a couple months ago.
At this point, shouldn't the idiot that keeps on giving him his license be right next to him doing time? The man is 77!! He was driving erratically down a residential street going 20 mph over on a license that had been suspended 7 times! *shaking head* THIS is why I have road rage.
Poll: Do you think the government is as responsible for this as he is by repeatedly giving him a license to drive?

I love flipflops: That's the thing--the city has special public transportation that costs $3 to taxi senior citizens wherever they need to go--grocery shopping, doctors appts, etc.
Mr. Smoothie--I was contesting the points on a 5 over speeding ticket I got.

Menehune-- get your head out of your rear end and read the question. I'm not predjudiced against his age, it's just another factor in the fact that he's now had 8 suspended licenses and still can't drive. Seniors SHOULD be singled out with more testing because it is a fact that health, senses, and action reflexes tend to deteriorate with age, NOT opinion.

The "government" whoever that is, gave him his first license. The judge who keeps removing it is at fault here along with the old fool who should have his car keys forcibly removed. I am 76 years old and gave up driving several years ago because: A-I don't see well enough. B-I have peripheral neuropathy in my feet and can't feel the pedals. C-I was a danger to myself and everyone else.
There seems to be a short-circuit in this court between the Judge and the agency who reinstates his license if he pays his fines and fees. In Oklahoma, if you pay all the fees, which amount to over $350 every time your license is suspended, you can go get your license back. That amount doesn't include the fines you may have to pay for your driving mistakes. You don't have to take the test again, which I feel should be mandatory for ALL drivers over the age of 65.

I personally believe that the government should retest Seniors at a certain point or medical condition. I wish that doctors would be able to report to the government and let them decide about whether or not someone (anyone) should drive.
However, another point to consider is that many seniors do not have families or people to help them get around and in rural areas there is no public transportation. They may have no choice.
While the $3.00 idea is cool, (we don't have anything like that where I live) $3.00 x 4 times a week is $12.00, then church on Sunday that's $3.00, then to the pharmacy once a month $3.00, then grocery store 2 times a month, thats up to $24.00. Most Seniors that do not have any other means of financial help other than SSecurity cannot afford the $3.00 a trip. I work at a financial institution and I can tell you many, many seniors don't have that kind of cash. Many times their medications are more than they get per month. It's a sad situation all the way around.

Your probationary license is supposed to be suspended for 90 days for a second offense before your 18th birthday in Ohio. It'll be suspended for a year if you get a third. Is this new ticket really only a speeding ticket or speeding and reckless ops or similar since you were 35+ miles over the limit? You might already be looking at a year's suspension.

Yes the government is as responsible....
But then too they are as responsible for giving out licenses to those that have "road rage".
So, perhaps your suitability for having a license needs to be looked at as well.
There never is a justification for road rage. Don't get mad. Get off the road.
Alot of it has to do with the laws regarding "human rights and freedoms".
But, in getting your license, it states that you have obtained a priveledge(not a right) and priveledges can be taken away.
I believe those that are elderly, should know themselves when it is time when to hang up the keys, and do so.
Or perhaps a law stating that those of a certain age are restricted in the size of vehicle/and horsepower they are allowed to operate(degrading it downward). Same law would apply to those exhibiting road rage tendencies(regardless of age).
The operation of a vehicle is not a perfected thing(as humans are not perfect). Errors in judgement will happen.....and not being capable to adjust for those errors also puts others in the same "you can't drive" boat.....for driving is one of making judgement calls and adjusting your driving according to conditions outside of your control.

Yes. The state gives the license. After a certain age, there should be special testing. No offence to the older generation hitting their 70's but some people are fit to their 90 and some deteriorate younger. If you are unable to drive safely, you should not drive at all. Same goes for drunk drivers and repeat offenders of accidents. Do us a favor, if you can't drive, stay off the road,....

They find ways to get their license's renewed.
My grandfather shouldn't have been driving and he knew he wouldn't pass the test down state. So he always waited when the renewal was due, then he went upstate to our cabin.
The ladies in the up state license bureau, passed anybody. That office was more of a local hangout than a state bureau.
Your right that all drivers license bureau's need to follow the standards at all offices. Anyone issuing a license out of standard needs a royal rump kicking.

Well, think about it, my friend. Whether the man has a license or not, he is apparently going to drive. I am not certain prison time is a viable option this late in his life either but hey, if that is what it takes, MAYBE the state will be able to teach an old dog new tricks.

I do. It should be apparent that this individual cannot meet the required level of responsibility to operate a vehicle. There is absolutely no reason to give someone their license back after 4 revocations. It's simply irresponsible of the justice system and our government and puts everyone in unnecessary danger.
Driving is a privilege, not a right.

Yes, I agree with you. He clearly shouldn't be driving. The police are obviously doing their job, catching him and issuing citations...as you said, it's the government. He should have had it totally revoked after about 3 times, in my opinion. He's had way too many chances + may kill someone one time. He'll probably be out there without a license if he doesn't get another one issued....jail may be the only way to keep him off the road.
