Is it not odd to believe that there is one god controlling everything every second, gives man the right to decide what god they wish to believe, and kill them and smite them if they don't believe.

Yeah, what a bummer if you got to 'heaven' after following Jesus, & found Mohamed standing there!

I didn't realize there could only be one god. One highlander, sure.
If all other religions say otherwise then why are you asking your question as if the whole "one god" thing is an absolute truth? Who says that there is any god in the first place? Why can't the Greeks be right? They were way cooler than the Romans....

You should be 'careful' with these 'Why-is-it'
questions;Didnt they teach you that at school?
Because they should have; Be critical, but please ask fewer and fewer Why-is-it questions in the future. Why is that?
Go look up the answer within the work of the late 20th century philosopher(so-called)
called Sir karl Popper.
And he rarely if ever talked about God.
BUT, in his brilliant book The Open society and its Enemies, he DID mention christianity and especially the well known parable or story, there. about the man who needed help but most folk walked-on by;Nonetheless,a stranger came along and helped him-he or she DIDNT 'cross ver the road to deliberately avoid the person in distress.
And so it goes on.
Happy new year, and to lots of other good people here too(if you dont mind that!).

I like the idea of uniformity. At the bottom you have us normal folk (the many). Above that you have the extraordinary (the few). At the top you have the best (the one).
I think this concept can be applied to just about everything in the world including religion. One God represents the pinacle of human understanding, imagination, ideas and potential.
One God represents one destiny...

well there is no god in my opinion! but it really depends on what religion, well like christians seem to wanna show off so they made their god all yaaa powerful. i think that back then they were just trying to think of a theory why we are here on earth, why we are living and how to become better people, actually i have seen some videos about how christians might have thought that the sun was god, it makes sense if you think about it. But ya, i dont think there is a god ;p

If you really think about, is there more than one God when you consider the monotheistic religions?
When you look further into the religions, the Gods all seem to teach the same thing, but different people interpret it differently?
Is it possible that the problem isn't with the massive amount of Gods, but in the massive amount of people and their interpretations.

Because there is only "One God"
Elohim : denoting "The Creator"
Almighty: This title belongs to the same God,as Creator, but expresses His relationship to all He has created,by the exercise of His power over "all the works of His hands"
LORD: used of Jehovah or correctly pronounced Yahovah since their are no "J's" in the Hebrew language.

Don't quite understand the question. . . so here are a few facts that might help:
1) The Bible says there is only one God
2) People worship more than one god/idol because one does not statisy (neither does any amount of them, but thats a different issue). . . it cannot make his conscience go away, or give him what he wants. . .But when he wants to try a new one. . . well he is scared the old idol will beat him up if he doesn't keep giving it worship.

or, maybe, there is no god. and honestly, if i were to believe in a higher power, i would have to go back to the ancient peoples who all seemed to believe in more than one god, like native americans, or greeks, or indigenous tribes. i think that the fact that most peoples believed in more than one god until jesus came along should mean something.

actually out of all the 7 major world religions, only 2 of them have more than one god. Hinduism and Sidkism(i think thats how u spell it!) every other major religion says that there is only one god, and they all have the same message
