There are two Roy Roger's restaurants in New Jersey that I am aware of. They used to have them all over New Jersey and their food tasted so good.

Roy rogers went from being a staple in most local communiteis to being a staple at most rest stops. If you drive down the New Jersey Turnpike, you will find that almost every reststop has a Roy's in it. I guess it is a little easier to get customers that way because you have people that have to stop there and not have many choices in food. I always find Roy's on a road trip.

In 1990, Roy Rogers Restaurants were sold to Hardees which converted them to expand its market in the Mid-Atlantic. Hardees was unsuccessful and tried converting the restaurants back, but the food was not the same. By the end of the decade, the remaining restaurants were sold off to Wendys, McDonald's, and Boston Market, leaving only a handful.

However, in 2003 Roy Rogers was bought by Plamondon companies which has the goal of introducing about 4 Roy Rogers a year. Whether the food will be the same and whether they come to your area again is unknown!

M P is pretty much right. Basically, they were ruined more by bad "big business" decisions than anything. Also, if I remembeor correctly, they didn't make their own food. Instead they had a deal with another company to make it for them.

The big downfall to their "comeback" is that they are opening their stores at service stations (convenience stores). We ate some on a recent trip and it was just crap. I miss the old RR. The RR of new is crapola.

But anyway, there are some still left, but they are focusing their efforts on the NE area of the States at the current time.

I'm the lucky one - I live in Ct by the Buckland Hills Mall in Manchester just outside of Hartford. We have 2 of them within a mile of where I work. One is inside the mall and the other one is a free standing store. I go about once a month and feast on the Large Roast beef sandwich with the horsey sauce and curly fries!

I thought you meant the real Roy Rogers, who died a few years back....don't know the status of the restaurants, since his wife has now also died.
