my son was about 2 1/2 when he showed intersted in anything with 2 wheels. he was riding a bicycle by 2 1/2 without training wheels and a motorcycle by the time he was 4....
make sure he can hold the bike up by himself, that is the key factor...
honestly, 2 years old is a bit young in my opinion!!! start him out on a bicycle, when he has some balance on that, and can hold a motorcycle up on his own, give him a try...
balance is the issue, but make sure to put him in all the proper safety gear!!!

You might want to wait till he is about 3 or 4yrs. old. Even at 2yrs. old his balance is still developing along with his hand and eye coordination. But, I will give you congrats on your new son and as a farther myself, I was the same way when my son was born so know how excited you are. This is what i did i always had him with me when i went to pick up parts and he would hang out and watch me work on my bikes and let him help then he turned 3 i bought him a used quad and safety geared him up and spent all week showing him how to ride then he turned 4 i bought him a dirt bike and the rest is history. You might want to consider making it a family function, does your wife like to ride? get her a quad. Good Luck and everything is going to be fine and be patient.

Many 2 year olds are thrilled at watching bikes, but get very scared if asked to ride one. Don't be disappointed if he runs away from it. Personally I'd leave it for a few more years before you buy him an actual bike. In the meantime, there are some great toy bikes on the market that will get him used to the idea. My nephew was getting his knee down by his forst birthday. ;-)

you should train him on a pedal bike first, slower than a dirt bike and he will still learn how to balance. If you still want to, or have found a great deal on a dirt bike just buy it and wait till he has a good sense of balance. A toy store might have an electric one that goes at about 6 mph.

Age is a relative thing. You'll know when he's ready.
Just don't force him, let him go at his own pace.
Dad started moving me in that direction around 5, and I've been riding solo since 7.

My daughter is 2, but most people think she's 4 because she's so tall and speaks so well. While she handles a PowerWheels jeep just fine, I wouldn't dream of putting her on even a bicycle for a while. Attention span alone is a big problem at that age. I expect to start her out on an automatic dirt bike in early elementary school, but even then I'm hesitant. Probably better to do a 4-wheeler first, the kind with the remote control for the parents to remotely shut it down if they get out of control.

Way to young. Even the training wheel dirt bikes are too much for a 2 yr old. Even the battery driven cars are too much.
Wait till 3-4 yrs old for the battery car. Let him get use to that. Then maybe at 5 try the bike. But even at that age, he won't grasp it or be able to do much. 7 is the best age to start such an item.
Don't jump the gun or you will just bury your boy early... something I know you do not want to do.

Teach him to ride a bicycle first, then when he's good enough at that, you can move him up to a dirtbike. It'll be less painful.
