Why is it that I don't know anybody on the NBA rosters anymore execpt the "Star(s)" of the team! What happened to those role players you knew off the top of your head like Charles Oakley, BJ Armstrong, Vinnie Johnson, Jerome Kersey, Mark Jackson, Buck Williams, Mookie Blaylock, Dana Barros, Kenny Anderson, Terrell Brandon, Chris Gatling! I don't, maybe I just don't key up with the NBA like I use too! What do you think............

This is the 21st century man! It's all about what's pleasing to the eye. Most people think the Spurs and the Pistons are boring, but they're the ones winning consistently, coz they're old school!

Years have passed and some players got amazing and some players are still just "aight". There is only one old school team. I think that team is the Detroit Pistons. They play like a team. Antonio McDyess is an old school player. In fact, the commentator on the Piston-Nets game said that McDyess was a "role player for the Pistons". They are the exeption.

I know what you mean. The NBA just markets star players in the league today and not the team as a whole. This is also the reason why the nba is not fun to watch anymore. The NBA is constantly losing fans as we speak. Today nobody gives a crap about role players, its all about the overpaid superstars

I totally agree. Remember when unless your name was Bernard King or Michael Jordan scoring 40 in a game was unheard of. I love what the Blazers are doing now. They killed in the early nineties because they were ridiculously deep. They are bringing old school Rip City (The original Rip City, Hamilton is a hack) back to the NBA.

Roy-Drexler
Jack-Porter (Kind of looks like him too)
Outlaw-Kersey
Aldridge-Buck williams (A big version)
Pryz-Duckworth
Then with Webster, Blake, Rodriguez, Frye, and LaFrentz. These guys are dangerous.

The NBA died when they started to allow traveling. They dont go out and say they allow it but when guys stop dribbling at the 3 point line and end up dunking it, something is wrong. Next time you watch a game count the steps. Usually 3 or more.

Yeah I guess you just don't keep up with it because I know alot of the players on alot of teams that aren't what you would call "stars" and actually I tend to root for the lessfamous players or the underdogs.

basketball has evolved and will continue to do so.

coaches and players alike are better aware of that old school days than us mere fans but they chose to hone their skills to adapt with the pace of the game.

do you, for one second honestly believe that some player or coaches out there secretly or openly wish for the good old days(old school for this matter) type of basketball play?

or if there are, who are they? why would they?

old school basketball was good in their time, but that play belonged there. if those role players are playing today, certainly their talent and skill will also evolve to adapt with the plays now.

players and coaches don't dictate the state of plays but they can only adapt to the continuous evolution of the game

there are a few but not many bench players that make major contributions but the teams that win it all usally have at least one tayshaun prince is somewhat like that. Heck i miss the old N.B.A. period. 3 pointers or slam dunks get old
