My baby will be four weeks old tomorrow, and is very restless during the day, then sleeps in the afternoon, and restless again all night. I wondered if taking him for a walk would be okay and would help him get tired and maybe sleep better. I thought maybe the fresh air would help? I live in Maryland and it is 45 degrees outside? Is that too cold for a jaunt around the block?

I had my son out in 20 degree weather when he was 2 weeks old.

Bundle him up and keep the wind off him and he'll be fine.

Its actually easier to put him in a carrier or sling, and then put your husbands big coat over you both and zip it up, then he has your warmth.

The air is GREAT for babies, it helps develop their immune system correctly.

Heck no, just bundle him up very well. I would put him in a onesie, then his outfit, and then maybe his full body coat that they make for infants, and than put him in a swaddle, and than put a blanket tucked loosely around that. and he should be ok. I think taking him for a walk might do you both a little good. I have never kept my kids inside at any age due to the weather. As long as you dress them appropriately and make sure that they are ok when you left everything will be fine. The people that won't take their kids out in the cold or heat are just worry worts and as long as you take the same precaustions with them as you would yourself they will be just fine. Babies are born in Alaska all the time where it is like 10 degrees this time of year and parents take them out to the stores etc.

Nope, not too cold. Put layers on your baby and use something to block the wind. Fresh air is great to help a baby sleep! At this time of the year there is lots of humidity in the air also which is good if your baby has a cold......good even if they don't have a cold!

No way! Take him outside just have him dressed properly. My Dr. said dress the baby how you would dress. If the back of their neck is warm, they are plenty warm. If you are comfortable, they are most likely comfortable. People over-bundle their babies...I was guilty of that too. I stopped and she seems much more content. She would cry once I got going in the car and I realized w/ her carseat cover and blanket she was too hot...
I am rambling...and from Maryland too!! It's a pretty day today & great for a walk. Where are you in MD? Eastern or Western?

I live in Canada and it can get colder than that at night in June.

Just dress appropriately, and remember being cold doesn't give you "a cold".

Personally I don't go out with my son:
- It is colder than -4F
- The windchill is more than 20 degrees

the tip for dressing babies is not to over dress them.

they need one layer of clothes more than we do. equal to a blanket over their carriage/stroller.

yes, go for a jaunt. just becareful of too much wind.

if you have a snuggly he can keep warm next to you and his face will be protected from the chill.

the outdoors will do you both good. nothing like fresh air and a change to help sleep.

bundle up good and go, why stay at home when you can walk, you live in Maryland, it's going to get colder you know, why be stuck in the house, get some blankets, a snow suit and your good to go for winter.
BTW I live in Ohio, I go for walks all winter with my babies(weather permitting)
