I think I"m an optimistic person. I tend to believe people so I'd make a lousy judge. But like Snoot, I'm very cynical about our government. The older I get, the more I am able to acknowledge the corruption that occurs in politics.
It's good to have a balance of both.

Can I be both? Cynical about our government and don't think they are listening to us. low education standards, and outsourcing through illegal immigration and hiring people from India and other third wold countries.
Optimistic for the future because we are a resilient people, we are able to work as team no matter what happens, and the dollar will have a slight increase.

I have continued to be an optimist throughout my life. I would probably lose my mind without having some kind of hope or benefit that something good will happen . Even things that did not go as expected or planed, became a part of "lessons learned"....so I was "educated".

Being a cynic, my interest is in hunting down the person who took the missing half and then... (better not, it's mixed company).
